New Doctor Who Companion: Jenna-Louise Coleman
Mar 21st
Steven Moffat and the men & women behind Doctor Who have just finished their press conference announcing the Doctor’s newest companion. The other night it was tweeted that she would be cute, but generally unknown. Many theories quickly shot around the internet about who could replace Karen Gillan’s Amy Pond, but no one was certain. Well now we have the facts, as Jenna-Louise Coleman is the lucky actress that gets to play companion next to Matt Smith’s 11th incarnation of the famous Doctor. Jenna, a 25-year old girl from Blackpool, England, is best known for her roles in the English More >
Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome
Mar 21st
Following the ever present character, William “Husker” Adama, the newest Battlestar Galactica series, Blood & Chrome, takes place 10 years into the first Cylon War. We first saw glimpse of this trailer at Richard Hatch’s So Say We All panel at WonderCon last week. There we also learned that the series will filmed entirely on green screen and that SyFy appears to be passing on the series, leaving producers to look towards online or direct to DVD distribution for the series. The series stars Luke Pasqualino as Adama, and was created by Michael Taylor and David Eick. We at Speak Geeky More >
Tim Burton 2012 Trailers
Mar 20th
Fans of Tim Burton will get a rare treat this year, as the gothic film master puts out two brand new movies. The director’s first flick of the year is based off an old 1960′s paranormal soap opera that some of you might remember, Dark Shadows.
As per usual with Burton films of late, Johnny Depp is involved (and starring) in the project. Depp will play Barnabas Collins, a 200-year old vampire, taking over from the original actor, Jonathan Frid. Alongside Depp, and under the directing of Burton, will be Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, and Jackie Earle Haley. More >
Microsoft announces no new plans for new Xbox
Mar 20th
Xbox fans have been scrounging the internet for new information regarding the new “Xbox 720″. Gamers also hoped that the “new” Xbox would be unveiled at this year’s E3. Unfortunately, Microsoft has said on Monday that it won’t be discussing any new hardware upgrades for the Xbox. The company plans on focusing their attention on games, music, and other entertainment.
Nintendo, however, will be showcasing the Wii U, the successor to the Wii, at E3 in June. Unlike the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3, the current Wii doesn’t offer high-definition graphics, so it’s only common sense that they would upgrade More >
Mark Waid and the Digital Comic Debacle
Mar 20th
Leading up to and through WonderCon 2012, Mark Waid has spent a lot of time talking about his new turn towards digital comics. However, in the post WonderCon period, thanks to some shoddy reporting, Mark Waid is now spending his time tweeting clarifications of his views on digital comics and dealing with the whiplash brought forth by certain comic retailers.
At WonderCon this year Mark Waid spent a lot of time talking about digital comics, such as hinting at his upcoming Secret Project, and his work with Marvel’s Infinite Comics (where he will be writing a digital-first story featuring the new More >
First Image From The New CW Series, Arrow
Mar 19th
Arrow, the new CW TV series based of DC comic’s Green Arrow, finally has an image to help promote it’s pilot. The image, seen above, is of the costume Oliver Queen (Arrow…or Green Arrow for comic fans) will be wearing in the series. It is designed by costume designer Colleen Atwood, who has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design 9 times and won the Award for her costuming work on Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, and Alice in Wonderland. Obviously this costume is much different, but still quite nice and faithful to the comic character.

Play Star Wars: The Old Republic for free this weekend
Mar 17th
The good folks over at EA/Bioware are offering a free weekend of play for their latest MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic. While not exactly mold-breaking, SW:TOR has solid game mechanics and good polish, and can easily be compared to World of Warcraft, though obviously set in the Star Wars universe. The game’s main distinction is it’s focus on story, including unique class-specific story lines, and full voice acting. If you didn’t try out the game when it launched in December of last year, here’s your chance. For all you evil sith warriors, spare the Ewoks!
