Friday Quick Caption for April 20th 2012
Friday Quick Caption is a weekly update of quick links and blurbs from the world of entertainment news. Expect your fast pace, A.D.D. dose of movie trailers, comic news, celebrity updates, and video game announcement from throughout the week.
Thief of Thieves Continues To Sell Out – The new Image comic from Robert Kirkman and Nick Spencer, that has already been optioned as a TV series for AMC, continues to explode. The first issue sold out on its release day and now enters a third printing. But both issue #2 and #3 are sold out, with second printings on their way, just in time for issue #4 to hit (and likely sell out) on May 5th. If you’re not buying this series yet, you likely will be beating yourself up in a few years when it becomes the next Walking Dead.
Coming To America, Because It Was Big In Japan – A few quick notes on new Japanese licenses snagged up for American releases. Viz has just gained the publishing rights for Strobe Edge, by Io Sakisaka, and Demon Love Spell, by Mayu Shinjo. Meanwhile, Atlus just got the rights for Dragon’s Crown, the co-up RPG for PS3 and PS Vita that made waves at last year’s E3. Expect all 3 new to be coming out in 2013.
Max Payne Meets Marvel Comics – It’s been nearly 9 years since the last Max Payne game, but with Max Payne 3 coming out from Rockstar Games on May 15th (less than a month away), it’s time to re-familiarize yourself with the character. Marvel has the answer for this with their newest of custom comics, Max Payne 3: the comic! Written by Rockstar’s own Dan Houser and Sam Lake, the book will be drawn by Fernando Blanco (Marvel Zombies). Max Payne 3 will be a 3-part comic series, covering the events of the first two games and answering questions left hanging from Max Payne 2. With covers by Greg Horn (Espers, Marville, and countless Marvel covers), it’s a hard toss up on whether or not that or the first issue coming out for free is the best news about this series. You can check out the first part of the Max Payne comic on the Max Payne 3 website soon, or grab the physical print copies at a later date. We’ll keep you updated as release dates are announced.
Eliza Dushku to S.M.A.S.H. Disney XD as She-Hulk – Speaking of Marvel, while Adrian Pasdar (the voice of Iron Man in Ultimate Spider-man and the Iron Man anime) was talking with IGN this week he revealed that he will be doing a guest appearance as Iron Man on next year’s new Hulk cartoon series. Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. is set premiere on Disney XD in early 2013 and will feature the Incredible Hulk and his friends, Red Hulk, Skaar, A-Bomb, and She-Hulk. The great news from Pasdar is that the ever sexy Eliza Dushku will be providing She-Hulk’s voice for the cartoon series. With Paul Dini on the creative team, an obviously comic inspired line up of characters, and some great voice actors on board, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. should be an awesome addition to the Marvel Universe block on Disney XD.
Beware His Bat Wrath - Now after talking about Disney XD’s Marvel Universe block, it’s only fair we mention new bits from Cartoon Network’s DC Nation block. Beware the Batman is another new comic cartoon set for an early 2013 release. This new Bat-toon is once again taking a very stylized approach of the Dark Knights appearance, much as Batman Strikes did. It will be a CGI format, similar to the Green Lantern series, but sadly lacks the comic creative backers that most Marvel toons do. Never-the-less, Glen Murakami is on board, so there is some hope yet for the series that features Batman teamed up with Katana and Alfred Pennyworth. Check out the brief teaser below.
Arrested Development A Little Less Arrested – Mitch Hurwitz revealed some new details about the fate and upcoming 4th season of Arrested Development during the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas. First off, the big news is that the 4th season is finally set in stone and will begin filming this summer. Picked up by Netflix, the series won’t hold to the traditional one a week format, releasing the entire season at once for Netflix streaming (prepare for a series of hardcore Arrested Development marathons upon release date). Even better yet, while the movie may have once been thought of as the series’ end, there is a chance of more seasons for the fan loved series, if season 4 does well. Hurwitz did specifically mention his interest in doing a fifth and sixth season for Netflix. With filming starting soon, Hurwitz is confident that fans of Arrested Development will see new material in 2013.
Silent Hill Revelations For Release Date – In a very quick drop of information, Silent Hill’s sequel finally gets a release date. Silent Hill Revelation will find its way into theaters October 26th of this year, just in time for Halloween. Starring Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, and Malcom McDowell, the movie will be a 3D release from Lionsgate. In case you haven’t seen the somewhat older trailer for the film, we have it for you below.
Cast Returning For Sin City 2 – After last week’s announcement that Sin City 2 is finally happening, we’re finally hearing trickles of cast signing on. Mickey Rourke and Rosario Dawson have already confirmed themselves as being on board for the noir comic sequel. However, as Sin City 2 is based around A Dame to Kill For, the questions still arise about Clive Owen returning to play Dwight McCarthy. Considering the character of McCarthy had a very different look in the second Sin City story, though, this may not be a huge problem. Never the less, Own has stated interest in the film, he just isn’t sure if he’ll be able to do it.
Fight like a Saiyan! – The long running Dragon Ball series of Japan is no stranger to fighting games. However, thanks to the Xbox Kinect they have finally brought fans the fighting style that has long been wanted for the series. Dragon Ball Z for Kinect may have one of the cheesiest demo ads out there, with horrid narration, but it looks like it could be a whole lot of fun. Check out the trailer below and the game, when it comes out, October of this year.
DC Comics Promotes Marriage – Finally, we end this week’s FQC with a funny little video from DC comics on the floor of last weekend’s C2E2. Apparently Geoff Johns, CCO of DC Comics, got involved with helping a fan propose to his girlfriend in the most creative way. Sadly this video is hardly one of those clips you have to share with all your friends on your preferred social networking site, with a somewhat lukewarm acceptance, but Johns has some funny enough lines in it to make it worth a quick watch. Check it out below.
