Avengers Thumb Drives
Fancy yourself one of the keen little ‘The Avengers’ USB Flash Drive that have been shown around the social networks lately? They are really cool little devices, looking like iconic Avengers weaponry or limbs. Yet if you’re in America this might not be the easiest movie/comic tie-in to track down. The 8 GB Avengers USB flash drives come in several forms, including that of Captain America’s vibranium shield, The Hulk’s green fist, Thor’s godly hammer (Mjolnir), and Iron Man classic helmet. There is even a variant of Iron Man’s helmet flash drive that is a solid metal color like War Machine. The flash drives are produced by the Taiwanese company, Info Think Technology, which make some really cool culture themed technology, like a Transformers flash drive, Sponge Bob smart card readers, and transforming sword flash drives. The only problem is that being a Taiwanese company, they have yet to set up rights for selling their products in America. The flash drives hit stores back in the beginning of May, selling in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and New Zealand for about $30.60 USD and come with a five-year warranty. However, the few sites selling them in America are asking as much as $50 or more for them, with ebay not being any better.
The 2 Iron Man themed flash drives were originally released for Iron Man 2 the movie, but repackaged with the release of The Avengers. This is why you will note they have nicer shielded USB connectors, where as the newer Avengers models lack this and are a little more likely to snap. But in all likeliness, most fans who get a hold of one of these USB devices are more likely to show them off than use them. In fact, one of the promotional images shows a rather fun way of showing your fellow geeks just how cool your technology swag can be by wearing the Avengers flash drive as a necklace (see below). Now if you really want one of these flash drives and are willing to try out your Chinese skills, you can attempt to purchase them from Yahoo Taiwan. Otherwise, you can either Google this information to see a large number of high priced imports or wait for the eventual North American (or wherever you’re from) release. Well no company or rights have been settled for this yes, the attention these items are getting would make it foolish for someone not to license these in the country the Avengers came from.
