It shouldn’t come as a shock to many of you that the long talked about marriage set to unfold in Astonishing X-men #51 is between Jean-Paul “Northstar” Beaubier and his boyfriend (now fiance) Kyle Jinadu. We spoke about this back on Monday, and many predicted as much months ago when the ad to your right first appeared. But now that issue #50 has come out today and we have all seen the spectacular proposal (with a lovely splash page), we can officially confirm the wedding in issue #51, set to hit stores June 20th, 2012. Many stores have already received “invitation” postcards, to hand out for free, with the cover of issue #51 (as depicted below). However, since this was one of the worst kept “secrets” in recent Marvel history, there isn’t really much to say. I’m certainly proud of the fictitious character, as Northstar has come a long way since his exit from the proverbial closet back in Alpha Flight #106, and this will be a nice milestone in the superhero’s history. I might also add, it’s a good thing Jean-Paul is Canadian, because he’d likely have to fly his wedding party around for sometime looking for a state that would accept his marriage here in the states. But kidding aside, this looks like it will be a fun end to a good storyline by Marjorie Liu in this Astonishing X-men tale.

 

On a loosely related note, also tied to Monday’s article, Courtney Simmons, DC Entertainment’s senior vice president of publicity, recently clarified Dan Didio’s statement from last weekend in a piece run by ABC News. Simmons says “One of the major iconic DC characters will reveal that he is gay in a storyline in June”. So it looks like we are only a month away from outing a new comic character, any speculation on who it might be? One way or another, it looks like June will be a good month to be gay in comics, you can marry and there’s another bachelor available for you (who is likely got an incredible body shown off in a skin tight suit).
