The Walking Dead – First Look At The Govenor
The Walking Dead comic book series has a huge cast of characters that range from sadistically evil to sweet and innocent. Yet one of the most sadistic men in all 98 issues currently out first appeared in The Walking Dead #27. His name? Brian Blake. However most people know him better as The Governor. The Governor was considered one of TWD’s greatest villains, even earning himself the series only spin-off in the from of a prose novel entitled: The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor. To many characters in the comic he is as evil as they come, yet to some he is the savior that allowed countless Georgians to survive the apocalypse. Robert Kirkman, TWD’s creator, once jokingly said “A lot of different characters have aspects of my personality, I think, but for the most part, I’m just making people up. Not one character is exclusively based on one person. Except for The Governor, who is exactly like Joe Quesada [editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics]. They are literally exactly the same”. But all these fun facts aside, and without any major spoilers, we have some interesting news for fans of TWD and The Governor: He is currently being filmed for season 3 of The Walking Dead TV series.
Yes, AMC has not only cast The Governor, to be played by English actor David Morrissey, but we have his first on set photo below:
In the comic book series The Governor was of Hispanic descent, Mexican-Irish, yet this no longer seems the case for the TV series, which has made many changes from the comic over its previous 2 seasons. In fact, many fans of the series are rather upset over this and other aspects of The Governor’s casting, with a huge outcry of fans wishing horror legend Tom Savini had received the part. Savini, who is a master of hollywood horror effects, campaigned hard for the role and was a fan favorite, even looking like the comic book character, yet was turned down by the crew behind the TV series. With the series set to return to AMC this October, it will be interesting to see just how well Morrissey lives up to the role.
