Comic Con 2012: Penny Arcade looking to create PAX South
Another year, another San Diego Comic Con.
Amid the myriad promotions by giant media conglomerates, costumed visitors and sexy booth-babes, and ever-satisfying merchandise, panels often serve not only as a refuge from the endless crowds, but also as a more intimate way to engage your favorite celebrities. Penny Arcade graced us with their presence again this year, and yours truly was at their panel to catch this delicious morsel of information; Penny Arcade is seeking to expand their Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) to a third venue, in addition to their annual PAX Prime and PAX East on the west and east coast respectively.
During audience questions one panel member asked about this very topic, after which Mike Krahulik (Gabe) looked at his business manager/handler, Robert Khoo, mysteriously asking, “can we tell them?” After some hesitation and very business-like back-and-forth, Mike offered this snippet to laughter and loud cheering from the crowd: “We are aggressively pursuing a third PAX venue.” Once the cheering died down Mike then whispered into the mic, “possibly somewhere near where you live!” to the fan that had identified himself as a resident of Austin, TX. By contrast, a very clear “No” was offered in response to a question regarding the possibility of a PAX in the Midwest.
So there you have it; Penny Arcade is expanding their annual PAX convention to a third venue, most likely to be located in Austin, TX. Southern fans of Penny Arcade rejoice!
