Today Marvel announced who will be taking over the rather large reigns of Journey Into Mystery after Kieron Gillen leaves for Iron Man this November. So who will be Marvel’s next big writer to handle Norse mythology in Journey Into Mystery? None other than Kathryn Immonen, the writer of recent amazing comics like Patsy Walker: Hellcat and Wolverine and Jubilee. Kathryn’s work will begin in Journey Into Mystery #646 this November, along side Italian artist Valerio Schiti (Battle Beasts, Infestation 2). These new creators wont be the only thing new to the book though, as Loki relinquishes his role as the series lead in place of the mighty warrior, Sif!

“We’re doing a Sif series because we think she’s pretty great. We were looking for a character with a cool point of view who could take us in a fun new direction.” said series editor, Lauren Sankovitch. Now Sif is certainly a character who has a rather popular fan following but doesn’t get much panel time in comics. So the question is what can be written about Sif and where will her story take her? “We talked at length as far as what her story could be, and it came down to a single question: What does she want? For Sif, what she wants above all is to be a better warrior. How far would she go for that? She makes some terrible decisions and puts a lot of people in peril.”  said Kathryn Immonen, adding “One of the really interesting things about Sif to me is that she’s defined by absence, with her lover, Thor, and brother, Heimdall, always away from her.” Kathryn promises to further explore the relationship between Sif and Heimdall finally, but as for other appearances, “There will be familiar faces showing up, but none I think anybody would expect.” Check out Journey Into Mystery with it’s new creative team this November,  or hop on the series this August 29th for the start of ‘Everything Burns’, the crossover event with Matt Fraction’s Mighty Thor series.
