The ever controversial Rob Liefeld officially stepped away from DC comics earlier this week, with a rather big drop via his twitter account. He officially leaves Grifter, Deathstroke, and Savage Hawkman with their #0 issues next month. However, if it wasn’t so close to the release of those issues, some question if DC would even publish those. Why? Because Liefeld has been making a rather spectacular spectacle of himself recently on his twitter account. Now this isn’t the first time fans might have seen Liefeld go off on another member of the comic industry online, but this certainly seems a big scale event involving members of both DC and Marvel, as well as countless fans and haters of the comic artist. Yet, somehow, despite some rather harsh exchanges, Liefeld is still coming off somewhat civil sounding and promoting the New 52, while simultaneously letting DC’s editors have it.

There is a hard line one must constantly face on where to draw the line from being a news and entertainment site and ending up a digital gossip rag. We’re going to somewhat step on that line in this rare occasion and pass you to Rich Johnston who doesn’t mind stepping in the gutters a fair amount with Bleeding Cool. Rich has done a rather talented job recording the events of Rob’s recent tweets, with his initial volleys, a spat with Scott Snyder, and a full release before a spat with Marvel’s Tom Brevoot. Thanks for going where we fear to tread Rich.

So what will become of Rob’s 3 previous titles? Scott Clark will be taking over Rob’s work on Deathstroke, while Marat Mychaels handles Grifter. No word exactly on what will become of The Savage Hawkman, but as Rob was just plotter we can presume Mark Poulton will continue to script, without his aid. On the plus side, for any fans out there of Rob Liefeld’s art, he is doing a fire sale on all his DC original art, including covers. Five of his Deathstroke original covers have already sold at a surprisingly low price. More are expected to go up for sale on eBay soon.
