25-years ago Konami released the first Metal Gear game for the MSX2. That was 11 years before Solid Snake would make his popular first appearance on the PlayStation console. Yet we still have 25 years of the special forces operative starring in stealth games that have defined the genre. Snake has since been in over 20 video games and several comics and novels. But what Snake has yet to appear in is a major motion picture, despite much hope and demands from fans. That all changed today, when Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. announced a partnership with Arad Productions, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Entertainment to make the first Metal Gear Solid live action movie.

The film will be produced by father-and-son team, Avi and Ari Arad. Avi was the founder of Marvel Studios and has worked on numerous blockbuster hits like the Spider-Man and X-Men series, as well as Iron Man and the upcoming Mass Effect film. The Arad family’s experience and success in converting comics and other video games into live-action movies and TV series is likely to lead to much anticipation for this new medium for the Metal Gear franchise. The movie will be developed by the Arad’s production company, Arad Productions, together with Columbia Pictures. The production and distribution will be managed by Sony Pictures Entertainment. Obviously, with such a recent announcement, no names have yet been thrown around about stars or directors. However, Speak Geeky To Me is here to keep you up to date on any future announcements or talk. Be sure to keep an eye on our FQC’s for any updates on the film until it starts really picking up speed.
