This weekend at Northants International Comic Expo (N.I.C.E. for short) Alan Moore spoke on panel about an upcoming comic project he was working on. Titled Providence, the  comic is to be another Lovecraftian tale published through Avatar Press, the same company that published his other Lovecraft themed works of horror, The Courtyard and Neonomicon. Alan Moore has long been seen as a fan of Lovecraft, including nods to the famous horror writer in many of his works, from Watchmen to the upcoming Nemo: Heart of Ice. In this newly announced comic, it seems Alan will no longer be courting the Lovecraft mythos so subtly, as Providence looks to take place in 1919, following Howard Phillips Lovecraft himself as a character around the time of his first published work. According to the Avatar Press owned news site, Bleeding Cool, the comic will be” Exploring scenarios that caused the man to be the writer we are more familiar with, as well as featuring a red headed policeman who is both a closet homosexual and closet Jewish”. Avatar’s President and Publisher, William Christensen, has further confirmed the series existence, but had no further comment beyond stating the series is quite a ways out. But if we can trust Bleeding Cool’s rumor reporting writer, Rich Johnston, there is a strong possibility artist Jacen Burrows might return to work alongside Alan on this new comic, as Johnston states Burrows will be visiting Alan in October. Jacen Burrows has worked with Alan before on Lovecraft themed titles The Courtyard and Neonomicon, so it is quite likely this could be the truth. All we know for sure though is that Alan Moore writing a fictionalized version of H.P. Lovecraft is sure to be a stunning tale.
