DC To Make Digital Comic Of Arrow
DC once made a great comic book character named Green Arrow who one day (October 10th, 2012 to be specific) would star in a TV series called Arrow (unrelated to his appearance in WB’s Smallville TV show). Based off Arrow, DC would then make a digital comic book series about the television version of Oliver Queen that was released weekly on their website. Yes, that is where we are now. Set to premiere the same day as the CW TV series, Arrow will be a brand new, weekly, digital first comic series from DC comics. Written by the TV series’ executive producers, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg, the digital comic series will take fans deeper into the world of Arrow, delving further into character back stories and often filling in the gaps between episodes rather seamlessly. Fan loved Green Arrow artist, Mike Grell, has been brought on board to draw the first two covers of the digital comic series, with rising stars Sergio Sandoval and Jorge Jimenez set to do interior art.
“This is incredibly exciting for us. For one thing, Andrew and I are not just television and comic book writers — we’re comic book fans. We’re also extremely excited to be doing something that I don’t think has ever been done before: a weekly comic which ties directly into a TV series with stories that fill in important gaps in the television narrative and written by the show’s writing staff,” said Guggenheim.
The first digital chapter of Arrow will go on sale for just $0.99 on October 10th, when the television series premieres, and see new weekly chapters each Wednesday after. But for fans looking to read about Arrow in a more analog form, DC has another way for you to enjoy the upcoming comic series. The Arrow comics will also be collected in print, with three digital chapters in every print issue for the price of $3.99 per issue. The first print issue of Arrow will hit stores on November 28th. This seems to be the style now with DC television properties, as Arrow mimics what had recently become of the Smallville comic series.
But that’s not all the news we have for Arrow fans, as DC has also let leak one other fun tidbit: Geoff Johns (Justice League, Green Lantern) will be writing episode 7 of Arrow. Geoff Johns, DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer, has been working closely on production of the newest DC property to see release on the small screen and now, much as he did with Smallville, Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken, and the comic TV series for Blade, he has found himself writing what will likely be the best episode of the season. Episode 7 is entitled “Muse on Fire” and was written alongside Guggenheim and Kreisberg. According to Johns, “I’m thrilled to be writing this episode of Arrow, and while I can’t give too much away, I think comic fans are going to like what we have in store for them – keep an eye out for the Huntress”. Arrow episode 7 is expected to air November 21st, and will be directed by David Grossman.
