Ever curious what Hawkeye versus Jean Grey might look like? Yea, most comic fans likely wouldn’t care about that match up either. But considering how much we all loved Wolverine versus Batman in 2006′s The Prestige, this combo of The Avenger‘s Jeremy Renner trying to shoot down X-men‘s Famke Janssen with arrows and bullets might be at least somewhat amusing. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is a quirky action film that tells the tale of children’s classic characters, Hansel and Gretel, years after they threw a wicked witch into an oven in a gingerbread house. Now, Hansel (Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) are grown up and hunting witches for a living. This new film reminds me so much of the Hugh Jackman Van Helsing that it’s not even funny. Sadly, that is probably what this film will be: not funny. That said, I certainly have hopes to the contrary, with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay producing the film. Plus, seeing Gemma Arterton in anything always brightens up my day, and has since I first saw her as that delicious little tart in the brilliant Three and Out (a hilariously beautiful film by director Jonathan Gershfield). The film originally began filming early last year, with an intended release date of March 2nd, 2012. However, as Jeremy Renner was set to quickly explode in popularity this year thanks to Mission: Impossible 4, The Bourne Legacy, and The Avengers, Paramount chose to push the film’s release. Of course, products have slipped through and you can now dress up as Hansel and Gretel for Halloween and make a sexy witch hunting couple none of your friends will likely know (unless they read Speak Geeky To Me, of course). Right now Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is set to release January 11, 2013, but you can check out the mildly humorous and very action packed trailer below:

The humor of this truly is that Jeremy Renner looks just like a strange mix between The Avenger’ Hawkeye (of whom he portrays onscreen) and Loki, with that unique leather jacket. This is only emphasized by him playing alongside a beautiful redheaded female in a tight leather outfit that is apparently good with guns. Take a look at the pictures of Jeremy below as Hansel and Tom Hiddleston as Loki and tell me what you think.
