Las Vegas Comic Expo Finds A New Venue
The normally dry desert city of Las Vegas has recently been hit by a fair amount of rains and flash flooding which will soon have a rather unexpected effect on many Geeks. It is only 2 weeks until Las Vegas holds its first Las Vegas Comic Expo and the rains have already caused a major change to the show. The expo was originally set to be held in Las Vegas’ Alexis Park hotel, but due to flooding the convention area of the hotel is rather damaged. The carpets have been ruined, the drywall is molding, and electrical problems further exacerbate the damage done to Alexis Park, making the hotel an unsuitable host for the comic expo. But there is a brightside to this disastrous news: LAS VEGAS COMIC EXPO HAS MOVED TO THE RIVIERA! Yes, now Vegas’ famous Riviera hotel and casino will play host to the comic convention. The Riviera is about 3 miles north of the Alexis Park hotel, but is far larger and directly on the famous Las Vegas Strip. Because of the change in size for the venue, the convention is now able to place the artist alley in the same room as the dealer’s hall, which will now be directly across from the panel rooms as well (no outdoor running between buildings in the Vegas heat, as would have happened at Alexis Park). Unfortunately this does mean that the convention is no longer right across the street from MorrisonCon, making it less likely some of that conventions big name comic guests will wonder into the smaller comic convention. Also, for those who already booked a room at the Alexis Park, the hotel will be offering a free shuttle service from Alexis Park to the Riviera. These last minute changes are sure to surprise many, and may not reach every attendee’s ear before the convention starts, so please spread the word and enjoy the show if you’ll be there later this month.
