It’s been almost a year since Viz formally announced its acquisition of Yun Kōga’s Loveless manga series at 2011′s New York Comic Con. It has been just over 4-years since Tokyopop last released a volume of Loveless, with volume 8 seeing print in English way back in September of 2008. That was roughly 3 years before the company officially ended their North American publishing of manga. Thankfully, fans can now rejoice as the long awaited volume 9 of Loveless has finally been released today through Viz. Priced with an MSRP of $9.99, this is just the start of Viz’s plans for future releases of the beloved Boy Love manga series.

In Loveless, Ritsuka Aoyagi is alone in the world, having never fit in at school and being alienated from his own past by a fragmented memory. But when his beloved older brother Seimei was brutally murdered, Ritsuka becomes heartbroken yet determined to find answers. His only lead is Soubi, a mysterious, handsome college student who offers him an intimate link to his brother’s other life: a dark and vibrant world of spell battles and secret names. The series, which currently consists of 10 volumes and is on-going in Japan, was created by Mangaka Yun Kōga. Yun began her career as a doujinshi author and debuted in 1986 with the original manga, Metal Heart, which was later serialized in Comic VAL magazine. She is also the creator of the popular series Earthian and has worked on several notable manga and anime projects, including the character designs for Gundam 00. Two of Kōga’s other works, Crown of Love and Gestalt are also published in North America by VIZ Media.

Viz Media has also announced today that it plans to re-publish the earlier volumes of Loveless, that Tokyopop has now obviously discontinued, as new 2-in-1 omnibus editions beginning this October. These releases will feature updated translations, new lettering, retouched sound effects, and brand new cover designs. Volume 1 of the Loveless Omnibus comes out on October 9th and includes 6 full-color pages, as well as 50-pages of bonus comics and artist commentary from Yun that had never been previously published in North America. The Loveless 2-in-1 edition omnibuses will MSRP for $14.99. Volume 10 of Loveless is also set for release from Viz early next year, January 8th, officially catching the US up with the Japanese in Loveless’ tankōbon releases.
