The Angels Take Manhattan Next Week In Doctor Who
Tonight sees episode 5 of Doctor Who series 7, The Power of Three, and I’m sure many of you are dying to watch it (though some have already had the chance). But next Saturday will be the mid-season finale for Doctor Who and feature the final episode with Amy Pond and Rory Williams, perhaps my favorite of the recent companions. The Angels Take Manhattan, which will be the 5th episode of this series, is to be the last episode of Doctor Who fans get until the Christmas season. That combined with the swan song of our current companions and the return of the Weeping Angels should make for a rather spectacular and/or tragic Doctor Who episode. For those Whovians with poorer memory or that might not have seen all of the new series, the Weeping Angels first appeared in the new series 3 episode, Blink. These visibly stone angels were in fact some of the oldest beings in the universe and, according to the Doctor, “the deadliest, most powerful, most malevolent lifeform evolution has ever produced”. The Angels are dangerous because they “kill” their victims by sending them into the past and trapping them there with just a single touch. However, simply looking at one of these Weeping Angels puts them into a Quantum Lock, freezing them as stone until they are no longer being looked at (so don’t blink!) In Blink, the 10th Doctor manages to trap several Weeping Angels through a proxy, by having them stare at one another. They later appeared in series 5, with a 2-part episode, The Time of Angels and Flesh and Stone. But it looks like now they are set to return and once again torment Amy and the 11th Doctor next Saturday. Perhaps it will be at their stony, angelic hands that we see the end to Amy and Rory. I’m going to certainly miss Amy and Rory after next week. But remember, this Christmas we’ll get a new companion, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.
And let’s face it, Oswin Oswald wasn’t all that bad looking.
