New York Comic Con ’12: Scott Snyder and Jim Lee On A New Superman Title
Scott Snyder is a comic writer that has been quickly gaining attention through his incredible work at DC Comics. Already responsible for the great Batman: Gates of Gotham and the highly popular Batman Court of Owls storyline, he is currently working on DC’s newest big Batman event, Death of the Family. Death of the Family sees the return of the Joker after a one year absence that has had fans begging to know where the clown prince of crime has been since he had his face surgically removed in Detective Comics #1. But as a critically acclaimed Batman author, Scott Snyder now has only one higher flying DC character he can conquer: Superman.
Enter Jim Lee, the Co-Publisher of DC Comics and one of the most talented artists in the industry. Lee has just finished up a beautifully drawn run of Justice League with Geoff Johns and now is looking for another project. Today that project was announced at New York Comic Con and it is of course Superman alongside Snyder. The last time Jim Lee drew Superman it was with Brian Azzarello on the critically acclaimed Superman: For Tomorrow almost 8 years ago. Now the pair of Lee and Snyder are looking to join forces on a brand new Superman title, set to hit stores sometime in 2013.
“As a huge fan of Scott’s writing, I’m looking forward to drawing Superman as much as I am reading Scott’s story as it unfolds,” Lee said. “Scott’s crafted a truly epic yet personal story which will demonstrate without a doubt why Superman remains the most iconic hero of the modern age. 2013 is gonna absolutely rock!”
Little is known about what is going to unfold in this upcoming Superman series, who Superman might be fighting, or even what the title will actually be called. But Scott Snyder had this to say at New York today, “I’ve loved Superman since I was a kid, and to be working on him now, with the great Jim Lee, is simply too thrilling for words. It’s a dream come true for me on every front. I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll just say it’s the Superman story I’d write if I only ever got one chance to write the character. It’s an exploration of everything I love and am fascinated by about him. Like Court of Owls for Batman, it’s a character piece for Clark – it’s going to challenge him to his core. And it’s definitely epic in scope, with huge action and drama – the biggest and most earth shaking action I’ve ever done. Can’t wait to see what you all think of it. Couldn’t be more grateful or excited to get the chance to make this one!” Check back with us for more information on the upcoming series as it gets announced. Until then, we leave you with this beautiful new Superman piece by Jim Lee:
