Anime Expo Experiments with 6-Day Convention

The people behind Anime Expo have just tacked on a separate two day pre-convention to Anime Expo (June 29th-July 2nd, 2012) , called “Project Anime”. It will be held at the Marriott Los Angeles LIVE hotel on June 27th and 28th, thus creating Southern California’s first 6-day Anime Convention! Though, from the announcement, “Project Anime” appears only to be a one-time event aimed at staff and vendors within the anime committee, it still counts as a six-day project and should be thought of as such.

Digital “Shonen Jump Alpha” replaces physical print of “Shonen Jump”

Shonen Jump, which was considered the “most successful and widely read” manga anthology in North America, has officially ended its print-run. In its place Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha, a weekly digital version of the magazine, will be released on January 30, 2012 from Viz Media.
Shonen Jump (2002-2012), which started off strong and hit their top run of 540,000 copies is mid-2003, eventually tapered off to a circulation of 215,000 by 2008. The transition to a digital format reflects the era of internet scanlations, as well as the rise of e-book readers.

Bleach manga to enter final arc

Tite Kubo has officially announced that his series, Bleach (one of the “Top Three” works in the manga and anime world), is coming up on its final arc. The series has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, alongside Naruto and One Piece, for the past decade. Currently Bleach is in the middle of a three week hiatus, and should return to print in two more weeks. From that point Kubo intends to begin the final storyline for Ichigo and his friends.

Debut of Eureka Seven: Astral Ocean

Eureka Seven (交響詩篇エウレカセブン or Psalms of Planets Eureka seven) has debuted a new spin-off series this week. The anime will debut on television in Japan on April 2012, but the first chapter of the manga has already been transcribed into English. The series is called Eureka Seven Ao (AKA: Eureka Seven: Astral Ocean) which is a direct sequel to the original Eureka Seven series.

Disney Division? Disney Releases a Joy Division-Inspired T-shirt

Today Disney released a T-shirt based off of Joy Division’s “Unknown Pleasures.”
It doesn’t take a musical expert to figure out that Disney and Joy Division are on dead-ass opposites of the social spectrum. Ian Curtis, singer of Joy Division was only twenty-three years when he hung himself on May 18th, 1980. His lyrical themes included Nazism (The opening lyrics to “Warsaw” are Rudolph Hess’ prison number: 31G-350125) as well as their name (Joy Division were a group of Jewish women forced to work as sex slaves in Nazi concentration camps).

Golgo 13 Coming To A Close

Takao Saito (斎藤 隆夫), was thirty-two years old when his manga Golgo 13 (ゴルゴ13) began serialization. Now, 163 tankoubon later, Golgo 13 is planning to complete it’s serialization.
Takao Saito is now seventy-five years old, and just recently gave an interview on the processes that go on behind his manga.
