A Holiday Break For The Staff Of SG2M
Dec 26th
We hope you all had an amazing Christmas yesterday, and have some great plans for the upcoming New Years. We know much of the staff here at Speak Geeky To Me are looking forward to the holiday vacation time that sits nicely between the two days. So we all hope you don’t mind if we disappear for a little rest and relaxation over the next few days. In other words, Speak Geeky To Me is going on vacation until January 1st, 2013. If any big news or videos pop up, we’ll make sure to come back and share them here More >
Fanboy Rant: Marvel Comics – Are We Getting Our Money’s Worth?
Nov 29th
I’m going to start this little rant by going back 2 years ago when DC announced they were “Drawing the Line at $2.99”. For those not familiar, this campaign was geared toward lowering the price of some comics, and maintaining the price on the rest of their comics. As it went, all regular comics (32 pages, including ads, and under) would have a $2.99 price tag, all oversized (above 32 pages) would start at $3.99, depending on the page count. Not only do I want to emphasize that DC has remained true to this pricing structure (their $3.99 books are More >
DC Cancels Hellblazer, Announces Constantine
Nov 9th
John Constantine has been DC and Vertigo’s resident English bastard since his first appearance over 27 years ago in The Saga of the Swamp Thing #37. Created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette, and John Totleben, Constantine was an occult detective, a con man, and a bit of prick. Never-the-less, the English anti-hero was beloved by fans and eventually found himself the center of his own on-going series, Hellblazer. Hellblazer first began in early 1988 from DC comics, eventually being placed under the Vertigo imprint in the spring of 1993. The title was originally written by a master of comics, Jamie Delano, and More >
Disney’s Purchase of Lucasfilm & What It Means
Oct 30th
…And then the internet exploded! Or atleast that was what it felt like when a couple of hours ago the Walt Disney Company announced their plans to acquire LucasFilm LTD from the founder, chairman and sole owner, George Lucas. A cash and stock purchase that equals to 4.05 billion dollars, a deal that both boards have agreed to.
“This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney’s unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value,” said More >
DC To Change Characters Sexuality – Not Superman!
May 21st
Originally I tried my best to stay away from this story until it was more concrete, beyond an offhanded answer at a convention panel. But unfortunately this small quote has exploded into news stories that are being misinterpreted entirely by non-comic fans, confusing comic fans less familiar with the subject, and leading to outright idiocy in lesser news groups like that of Fox, who claims Superman might be changed into a homosexual character. So before I go any further, let me remind you all that this isn’t 10 years ago when Joe Quesada was joking about Marvel obtaining Superman and making More >
Superman Vs. The Elite: Reveal The Elite
May 17th
UPDATE: For a review on the upcoming DVD release of Superman Vs The Elite, click here
Superman vs. The Elite is DC Comics’ newest direct to DVD animated film. The upcoming PG-13 rated Superman movie is scripted by the very comic writer whose story it is being adapted from, Joe Kelly. Superman vs. The Elite is based off his original 2001 comic, “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?” which appeared in Action Comics #775. Now while this comic has been considered quite the important story to many modern Superman fans and sequential art commentators, I still am stunned to More >
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier…and Tits
May 14th
Some video game companies sure are scared about not selling their product, to where I can only imagine the frantic screaming of “We may not hit the numbers we want! Tits and ass, hurry! TITS AND ASS!” So, to battle that terrifying thought of not making sales, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier developers Ubisoft decided on a…not so descreet business marketing scheme. To fortify their sales and to draw in more of their targeted audience, Team Ghost was made. Team Ghost consists, so far, of three celebrities, NBA star Kevin Love as the team’s shooter/sniper, Oklahoma state football star Justin Blackmon More >
Playing with Marvel AR and AvX #1
Apr 2nd
This weekend I got to test out Marvel’s new AR app on an early release copy of Avengers Vs X-men #1. Unfortunately the app is currently only out on apple products (with android products getting a release of the app very shortly), so I had to track down an iPad. Let me hilariously point out, that it was much easier for me to get my hands on AvX #1 than it was for me to get someone to let me borrow their iPad. However, once I got the hardware I needed, downloading and running the new Marvel AR app was More >
The Mass Effect 3 Ending is Just Fine.
Apr 1st
WARNING: Plot spoilers inside. This article most definitely discusses the ending of Mass Effect 3.
For a few weeks now, Mass Effect 3 has whipped up a firestorm in gaming communities online. It all started with disaffection over the ending of Mass Effect 3, one loudly declared nonsensical and unsatisfactory by many angry gamers. A great many gamers accuse the ending of not giving closure to what has been an epic, unbroken story across three full games of character development, relationship-building, and galaxy saving, all let down by shoddy writing in it’s final moment of glory. Do not believe them. The ending is More >
Be A Hero and Help Africa
Jan 25th
[private]This is actually a direct from Mathias post, but with sentiments I’m sure everyone here at SG2M will support. DC Entertainment and their parent company, Time Warner, officially announced their new charity support campaign, We Can Be Heroes, on Monday. We’ve already posted a bit about this on the site earlier this week. But I wanted to take a moment to personally talk about the concept. I, like many people in this world, support the ideas of many charities. I like the idea of in some way helping people even when I can’t be directly involved in helping. That said, More >
