Nominees Announced For First Dwayne McDuffie Award

Earlier today the five nominees for the first ever Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity were announced, and they come from both independent and mainstream comics. The nominees are:

• “Ms. Marvel” by G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona (Marvel Comics)

The Best Potted Groot Yet! — A New Guardians of the Galaxy Toy Worth Buying

Ever since that amazing credits scene from this year’s highly popular Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, fans have been clamoring for a dancing potted Groot toy. Everyone from Funk Pop to KIDdesigns has made a version of the beloved sapling Groot in a pot, though the custom figures by fans have often come out the best. Free Comic Book Day for 2015 is only half a year away! To most of you the dates being released this week should be no surprise, as Free Comic Book Day (or FCBD) has been the first Saturday of May since its creation in 2002. Marvel Announces Phase 3 Of Their Cinematic Universe

Today, at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Marvel made their biggest announcement in sometime: the entire line up of their Phase 3 movies! This comes hot off the heels of Marvel’s trailer release for the final film in Phase 2, Avengers: Age of Ultron. Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival Panels: Heavensward

With the Fan Festival for FFXIV over now for a couple days, I’ve finally been able to go back through all the exciting things that were released during these two hectic days. I did not get a chance to sit and listen to every panel from start to finish, but I did manage hear about all the exciting points in each of them. A lot of the stuff talked about is coming out in the next couple of patches (2.4 and 2.5) along with some exciting things being released about the expansion that now has a time frame and official title. NYCC ’14: A Weekly Wolverine Series Without Wolverine

When Marvel announced a weekly Wolverine series at New York Comic Con today, the audience briefly had to presume, that in the middle of the Death of Wolverine, this was how James “Logan” Howlett was coming back from the afterlife. More amazing and unexpected was that this freshly announced series, entitled Wolverines, doesn’t actually feature the Wolverine we all know and love. NYCC ’14: Operation S.I.N.

Falling out of Marvel’s big summer event and next week’s upcoming annual, Original Sin, is a newly announced Marvel mini-series that might also intrigue many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Dwayne McDuffie was an iconic comic creator and television writer taken from us far too early. By the age of 49, Dwayne had helped create several amazing comic characters, been responsible for a number of brilliant animated comic adaptations in television and film, and written a number of notable comic storylines in books like Justice League of America, Firestorm, and Fantastic Four. McDuffie is responsible for great animated series you’re probably familiar with like Static Shock, Teen Titans, and Justice League Unlimited.
