Dr. Ray Muzyka
The recent uproar over the ending of Mass Effect 3 has had consequences. BioWare’s Dr. Ray Muzyka has written a lengthy response, wherein he states they will try to clarify the ending in order to provide more closure, though details remain vague. This statement comes on the heel of gamers organizing into online petition groups asking BioWare for a new Mass Effect 3 ending that they hope will do more justice to the much-loved franchise. My feelings on this issue have been covered elsewhere.
Regardless of where you lie on that issue, you have to admire the ability of More >
The Mass Effect 3 Ending is Just Fine.
Apr 1st
WARNING: Plot spoilers inside. This article most definitely discusses the ending of Mass Effect 3.
For a few weeks now, Mass Effect 3 has whipped up a firestorm in gaming communities online. It all started with disaffection over the ending of Mass Effect 3, one loudly declared nonsensical and unsatisfactory by many angry gamers. A great many gamers accuse the ending of not giving closure to what has been an epic, unbroken story across three full games of character development, relationship-building, and galaxy saving, all let down by shoddy writing in it’s final moment of glory. Do not believe them. The ending is More >
Star Wars: The Old Republic Patch 1.2 - Not what the doctor ordered.
Mar 30th
Star Wars: The Old Republic has another large patch coming it’s way, this time called the 1.2 Legacy patch, due to it’s emphasis on expanding the game’s Legacy system. The patch also contains many of the regular features to be expected of any major patch: bug-fixes, social additions (guild banks), expanded crafting, UI customization and class re-balancing. However, the 1.2 Legacy patch does not largely address an oft-cited problem with the game: lack of end-game multiplayer content.
Many players frequently complain on the player forums about the lack of content for their max-level characters. The PvP is often called ‘light-weight’ and More >
World of Warcraft subscriber numbers affected by Star Wars: The Old Republic
Mar 21st
At it’s peak, Blizzard’s World of Warcraft hit approximately 12 million subscribers. That number has since declined steadily, as players work through the content or simply get bored and stop playing. Now, in an interview with Eurogamer, Blizzard has acknowledged that other games may be playing a role in the decline, specifically Bioware’s Star Wars: The Old Republic.
World of Warcraft Senior Producer John Lagrave stated that Blizzard doesn’t “have a lock on all the best games in the world”, citing other “great” games such as Skyrim. However, Lagrave offers a possible alternate theory. Players may simply be leaving in anticipation of More >
Play Star Wars: The Old Republic for free this weekend
Mar 17th
The good folks over at EA/Bioware are offering a free weekend of play for their latest MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic. While not exactly mold-breaking, SW:TOR has solid game mechanics and good polish, and can easily be compared to World of Warcraft, though obviously set in the Star Wars universe. The game’s main distinction is it’s focus on story, including unique class-specific story lines, and full voice acting. If you didn’t try out the game when it launched in December of last year, here’s your chance. For all you evil sith warriors, spare the Ewoks!

Mass Effect 3 Midnight Release
Mar 6th
A crowd of about 300 enthusiastic gamers braved the chilly Los Angeles weather outside of West Hollywood’s Gamestop awaiting the midnight release of BioWare’s Mass Effect 3 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles. For a “fan event” there was quite a bit of excitement and activity inside the store. Director, Casey Hudson, and lead writer, Mac Walters, were both on hand to give interviews to the press right up until the 12am release. Once gamers got their hands on the game, the pair, along with several of the game’s voice actors autographed 8×10 game promos and pre-ordered copies More >
Mass Effect 3 Balloon Space Chase
Feb 24th
Throughout this week the incredibly fun people at BioWare have been releasing copies of Mass Effect 3 out into space and back for those who can track them. They are doing this by attaching the games to weather balloons and letting them drift. Not all of these ventures have been sucessful, with reports of one grouping of the games being stuck 150′ up an old Redwood in Northern California’s Big Basin. But today they’ve launched balloons from Las Vegas which are a little less likely to be so irretrievable. For More info check here, or read the blurb from BioWare More >
