Now while options are bountiful here, and many fans will quickly snatch up their copy of the film today, some eagle eye collectors may have noticed there was originally another version of the film solicited. So what happened to the ultimate 10-disc edition of The Avengers? Officially titled the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled 10-Disc Limited Edition Six-Movie Collector’s Set, this edition of the film (and other Marvel movies) was going to come in a special S.H.I.E.L.D. briefcase designed after the Topas attaché case from Rimowa that Marvel used in the film. Unfortunately, neither Disney nor Marvel obtained a licensing agreement with the luggage company to do this. Because of the lawsuit this brought on, and several other minor factors, the release of the collector’s edition has been pushed back to an undetermined date in the spring of 2013. Most likely, the newer version of the collector’s edition will not come packaged in a Rimowa-esque case, which means it also might not come with the awesome Cosmic Cube (or Tesseract, if you will). But we do have word that the collection will now have more behind the scenes features that originally announced when it finally does come out, which might include some footage or teases for the “second phase” of Marvel Studio films (such as Iron Man 3). Many fans pre-ordered this collectors edition through sites like Amazon or directly at the Marvel booth during San Diego’s Comic Con. We know that fans who purchased the set through Amazon and did not cancel their orders are supposed receiving a free copy of the 2-disc Blu-Ray tomorrow, along with the chance to keep their pre-order for the collector’s edition when it does come out next year. However, there is yet to be any word or return from our inquiries about fans who pre-ordered the set at conventions.

While the aforementioned might bring bad news to many, the fact that the film is finally available on home video in any format will likely make for great news to most. So to remind you how incredible The Avengers film was and hopefully entice you to run out and grab a copy, enjoy the trailer for the film one last time below:
