The major comic companies get enough reviews and press, it’s time for the creator-owned and indie series to get some love and judgment. Indie review takes up-and-coming indie and creator-owned series and puts them through the review process so you can confidently support the best of the small press and passion driven projects in the comic industry.

October 31st is a very special day, and not just because everyone will be dressing up in awesome costumes and go threatening tricks for treats. No, it is because tomorrow is the first annual Halloween ComicFest. Not to be confused with San Diego’s recent Comic Fest convention, Halloween ComicFest is an event held in hundreds of comic shops across America (and some shops around the world, too!). Organized by Diamond Comic Distributors and Comic Shop Locator, with the aid of several major comic publishers, Halloween ComicFest will be offering comic shoppers a bountiful number of free comics this Wednesday. …And then the internet exploded! Or atleast that was what it felt like when a couple of hours ago the Walt Disney Company announced their plans to acquire LucasFilm LTD from the founder, chairman and sole owner, George Lucas. A cash and stock purchase that equals to 4.05 billion dollars, a deal that both boards have agreed to.
“This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney’s unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value,” said More >
It has just been announced that right now Disney is looking to purchase Lucasfilm LTD. for $4.05 Billion USD. A lot is currently uncertain, with talks of Lucas being paid in a mixture of cash and Disney stocks in the buy out; the deal including not only the classic Star Wars franchise, but also other Lucasfilm LTD. businesses such as LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound; the potential for this deal to be much like the Marvel purchase, with the company remaining relatively untouched; and the promotion of Lucasfilm co-chairman, Kathleen Kennedy, to president of the company. Fillmore Press was once Madder Red, a homicidal maniac and criminal overlord who terrorized the town of Bedlam for years. Then he got better. The story of Bedlam is what happens next. The newest Image comic series hits stores this week and I honestly can’t recommend it enough. Ever since viewing a preview of the comic earlier this summer I have been dying to share it with people and this preview gives me a chance. This maddeningly dark and somewhat hilarious tale of a Joker-esque supervillian is guaranteed to be a cult hit comic.

Earlier this year saw the publication of Vince Hernandez’ brand new series about magic, Vegas showmanship, and talking cats from Aspen MLT. Charismagic was a spectacular 6-issue epic following the adventures of Hank Medley, his cat, Sparkles, and the powerful Sudana as they tried to prevent the evil Samsun from returning to Earth. Filled with great characters, humor, and high octane adventure, the series’ first volume was a great success, with a second volume already in the works. But before that second volume has us returning to the adventures of Hank the Magnificent, Aspen has plans for another tale set More >
Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and director of The Avengers, has recently created a very unexpected and hilarious presidential campaign ad for next week’s 2012 election. The short ad, posted under his new youtube account, WhedonOnRomney, has Joss explaining why he thinks a vote for presidential candidate Mitt Romney could lead to a zombie apocalypse. We’re not here to take sides on the election, though Joss seems to subtly do so in this video. What led to this video is hard to say, but moments of humor mixed with politcal views are somewhat rampant thanks to More >
It has been exactly 1 year and 2 months since the last new episode of The Venture Bros., with their special mockumentary episode, From the Ladle to the Grave: The Story of Shallow Gravy. The 4th season of the show ended back in November 21st, 2010, and while it has been renewed for both a 5th and 6th season, Adult Swim will not be premiering the new seasons until February of 2013. Thankfully the shows creators are recognizing fan’s pain and anxiety for new Venture Bros. entrainment and have created a new special set to air later tonight. Titled A More >
