Despite E3 being just around the corner, some game companies just can’t wait to announce their big new games. DC comics had to jump the gun with their very interesting looking new project, Injustice: Gods Among Us. Put out by WB Games and NetherRealm Studios, the companies replacing Midway after it’s 2009 bankruptcy, this new DC comics themed video game will be designed by the creators of Mortal Kombat, something the company is proudly pushing. This is the company’s second attempt at producing a DC themed video game, following the rather unsuccessful release of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. The company still believes the DC characters just want to kill and destroy. However, this time the approach seems somewhat more reasonable, in the atmosphere of the New 52, with armor that appears like an evil earth version of all our favorite characters, and the inclusion of a few well known villains (Harley Quinn and Solomon Grundy) in the mix. The game is rumored to be of the fighting genre, again, with a 2013 release date on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U.

The trailer shows us 6 playable characters: Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, The Flash, Solomon Grundy, and Harley Quinn (looking very suicide squad). It is obviously not taking place in any known DC universe already revealed to fans of the comics, but looks oddly influenced by the New 52 designs. Ed Boon, the game’s creative director, claims that the people of DC Comic’s gave the company a lot of room to alter and play with the designs of characters, and that each character will see multiple costumes in the game. Where these versions of the classic characters are from and why they will be fighting each other certainly hasn’t been shared yet, but hopefully with the large number of social networks already popping up to promote the game, we shall find out on either Injustice’s Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, or at E3 next week. Beyond the information already shared, our only clue is an odd little symbol/logo design appearing on all of the game’s social networks. You can see it on the right, but were not certain of the meaning. Our best guess is that it is rather similar to the color scheme and designs of New Gods characters like Darkseid, Mister Miracle, and Big Barda. Such a fact might tie-in with the use of the word Gods in the game’s title. If you have any guesses, feel free to share them.

On a loosely related note: Does anyone else see a rather saddening similarity between the Injustice trailer and the Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 trailer, in the use of stop time combat with fire and ice, etc? I’d hate to think DC is stealing from Marvel or NetherRealm from Capcom…again.

Check out a rather keen, GameSpot, interview with Ed Boon below. It goes into interesting early details about Injustice.
