So for those of you who saw The Avengers in theaters, you already say the small hint of Thanos, who might be the best visually adapted comic villain ever put on the silver screen. If you’re reading Avengers Assemble, you might have even seen Thanos appear as the series big baddie, too. But this is hardly all there is in the year of Thanos! First of all, Thanos is going to be made an exclusive statue at Comic Con International (check back tomorrow to read more on that). And then, this fall, he’s going to be in not one, but TWO self-titled comic book series! Yes, Jim Starlin, Thanos’ creator, is coming back to Marvel to write two brand new miniseries about the mad god of Titan.

Thanos first will return in Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagely’s Avengers Assemble this September with issue #7. Shortly there after we will see Jim Starlin write and draw Thanos: The Final Threat, wherein Thanos once again goes after the infinity gems (which is kinda getting old, to be honest). He will face the Avengers, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, and others in his quest to recreate the Infinity Gauntlet and become the omnipotent ruler of everything. As amazing as Infinity Gauntlet was, let’s hope this repeat of premises holds up to make for another good story and not another piece of crap where the gauntlet is quickly dealt with in the final issue, as has been happening in infinity gem stories of late. However, in the comic I’m most looking forward to, Jim Starlin returns to his creation yet again, also in September, for Thanos Quest. This miniseries will have Ron Lim (Mystery In Space) on art and Andy Park (God of War) doing some already magnificent covers. So what is Thanos’ quest? Why, to destroy half the population of the universe and rule all he surveys of course!
