Lady Sabre & The Pirates of the Ineffable Aether

Greg Rucka is one of those authors who consistently puts out work worthy of note. He is a man who has produced countless highly respected comics and novels, always worth the read and incredibly enjoyable. So when Greg releases a new creator owned comic series, you should always give it some attention. However, when he releases a FREE creator owned comic series online with the talented Rick Burchett (GRAVEDIGGER: The Scavengers)? You’d be a fool not to at least give it a read. Well, thankfully Greg and Rich have done just that, with their new Steampunk webcomic series, Lady Sabre & the Pirates of the Ineffable Aether.

Over the past few years we have seen many major comic creators crossover from the print and ink style to webcomics found free online. This medium allows creators to work on personally owned characters and stories while getting them to a much larger audience, free online. Some series, like Freak Angels, Teahouse, The Gutters, and The Abominable Charles Christopher have found great success, with countless awards and high selling physical collections of the digital comic strips. Now is the chance to get on the ground floor of one of these sites, as Lady Sabre has just released it’s first strip.

Lady Sabre will be a bi-weekly comic, updating every Monday and Thursday at Ineffable Aether.com. The series will tell the tales of Lady Seneca Sabre, a witty and sexy female sword fighter/gunslinger in a very Steampunk world, known as Sphere. The creators are aiming for a fun adventure style series and aren’t shying away from claims that it will be better than your average print comic. Greg Rucka has been rather vocal in the past about his feelings on certain, big name, comic publishers and these feelings seem to seep through a bit in the websites content, such as this beautiful line in the about section of the webcomic, describing how fun the series will be:

You remember fun, right? That thing that most print comics seem to have forgotten in their desperate attempt to cling to readers, continuity, and a market that has outstripped and overtaken them? The thing that comes from enjoying a good story where you want to know what happens next and the characters are cool and the villains are villainous and the heroes are heroic because they’re heroes?

Lady Sabre’s first strip premiered July 11th, with a rather engaging amount of gunfire, a lovely redheaded female, and a dimly lit chase scene. Expect great things from this free online comic with such devoted and well respected creators, as Lady Sabre & The Pirates of the Ineffable Aether continues Thursday, July 14th!
