Fashionable Looks from Comic Books
So I have been a comic book fan for quite some time and being that I am also somewhat of a girly girl who loves fashion, I thought why not marry the two together; Comics + Fashion= <3. With the help of Polyvore Fashionable Looks from Comic Books was born. Each month I will showcase a particular look or series of looks based on your favorite comic book characters. Girls take note! These fashions make you want to jump up and go shopping right now! I know a few of them have inspired me to do a little wardrobe reorganizing! Click on the outfit collages to get more details about the items.
The holiday’s are upon us and there’s that old holiday classic which I am sure all of you know and starts with a Bat…..
Jingle Bells….
Batman
Universe: DC
First Appearance: Detective Comics #27
Real Name: Bruce Wayne
Super Ability: Master detective, Master of Martial arts, Access to all the latest and greatest high-tech equipment (that’s what loads of cash and good friends buys ya folks), Master of escape, In peak physical condition (I’m all about that!).
Fun Facts: Billionaire socialite (sup ladies.), witnessed the murder of his parents at the tender age of 8 (not really a “fun” fact, but very pivotal to his character development), and has many complicated relationships with good guys and villains alike.
Batman Smells…
Robin
Robin Rundown
First Appearance: Detective Comics #38
Real Name: Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne…just to name a few
Super Abilities: There have been many who have taken the name Robin, each had their own traits/ special flair as Robin. Traits which include acrobatics, detective skills, martial arts, etc.
Fun Facts: While Robin’s name and costume was inspired by Robin Hood, his character namesake was later revealed in an origin story as coming from a robin bird. The first Robin, Dick Grayson, founded the Teen Titans. The 4th Robin, Stephanie Brown (formerly the Spoiler), was one girlfriend to the 3rd Robin, Tim Drake……Due to the fact that there are so many Robins, I could go on forever..but I am sure we’ll revisit this character another day.
I was definitely inspired by Damian Wayne’s Robin for this piece. (Who by the way, is actually the son of Batman/Bruce Wayne. His mother? Villain Ra’s al Ghul’s daughter, Talia al Ghul [see Son of the Demon and Batman & Son]).
I love the drape in the tee here, it’s very reminiscent of the drape in a superhero cape and I love that about this. I can only imagine that the shirt itself must be made of some super comfortable material that I would want to snuggle in all day long. Rather than give in to a big yellow jacket, sweater, poncho, whatever, I decided the drape of this shirt would be striking enough without having to sacrifice this design (and be cheesy about it). The boots, well what can I say? I am a Doc Marten kinda girl and these definitely fit the bill, the bullet belt serves as a great conversation piece (and your utility belt!), the sunglasses reminded me of Robins mask, and the rest of the accessories just seemed a perfect fit for this look (I just adore that necklace!)
Robin laid an egg…
Batmobile lost a wheel…
Joker
Joker Rundown
First Appearance: Batman #1
Real Name: Unknown
Super Ability: None really. He’s just criminally insane, sadistic, psychotic….a general nutso. His crimes require zero motivation, just creative flair and thoughtful planning.
Fun Facts: He’s a serial Killer, super villain, trickster, and arch nemesis to Batman (he’s crazy, but he does it with flair!). His full origin remains a mystery to this day and his real name has never been revealed in the comics, we only know that he was mentally and physically disfigured by a chemical accident.
And Joker got away!!!
One more time!!
