This weekend is Texas’ big Music, Film, and Interactive Media Expo colloquially referred to as SXSW. Once again the big comic company, Marvel, is planning on making news there. Last year we heard about Marvel Infinity and Marvel AR. This year they’re teasing us with 3 very interesting ads, with possibly more to come. The ads, shown below, show a large #1 with many major creator names, 52 scratch marks, and something called Project Gamma. Fans are discussing countless possibilities, including ideas that Marvel is going the route of DC’s New 52, creating 52 new #1 issues that reboot the universe. This seems unlikely for a number of reasons, one of which being SXSW just doesn’t have the audience where you’d announce something like that to, being more focused on interactive media such as digital comics. However, perhaps Marvel will be making an Ultimate-like universe on digital only releases that perhaps feature 52 new #1′s? Really it is hard to guess how these three things tie together, if they even do, but the answer will all come shortly. This Sunday Marvel has a panel at SXSW, which will be hosted by Marvel Editor-in-Chief, Axel Alonso. Expect major announcements then.
