April’s solicits for DC aren’t out just yet, but we already have news about some of the big creative team change ups. It was announced a while back that Scott Snyder would be stepping away from Swamp Thing to focus on the many other titles he was currently working on, and issue #18 would be his final issue. Meanwhile, Scott Lobdell is stepping down from Red Hood & The Outlaws, also claiming a rather swamping schedule, except without the Thing that follows up that swamp. Coincidentally, both men have taken up writing Superman, with Lobdell on Superman proper, while Snyder prepares for Man of Steel, the upcoming Superman series with Jim Lee on art. Perhaps Kryptonians drain comic scribes’ writing abilities, or perhaps simply writing over 3 on-going comics a month is a daunting task that DC fears will put certain titles behind schedule.

The good news comes today with the announcement of who will be replacing the current creative teams for both books in April. James Tynion IV, the back-up writer for Batman who started out an intern at Vertigo and has worked alongside Snyder while writing DC’s Talon on-going, will be the new writer for Red Hood & The Outlaws starting on issue #19. Joining Tynion is Mico Suayan, an artist known mainly for his work at Marvel on books like Moon Knight, Punisher, and the amazing Immortal Weapons story based around Fat Cobra. Suayan has done some DC work recently, such as issue #9 of the recent Arrow comic series, based around the TV show of the same title, and will start on Red Hood & The Outlaws a little early, offering covers for the series starting with February’s issue #17. Tynion is promising some longer form stories with his run on Red Hood, picking up directly from where Lobdell leaves off in his final arc of the series. He claims the opening story will focus on Roy Harper and his interactions with some characters he was once closely associated with prior to the New 52. Expect the villains for the story to be announced sometime after the Death of the Family arc currently rolling through all the Bat books.

On the greener side of things, Swamp Thing will be taken over by a writer very new to DC, Charles Soule. Some fans might be familiar with Soule from his popular and oversized Image comic series, 27, which features a guitarist who has gained a rather unique set of powers. But Soule will definitely become a name many comic fans start familiarizing themselves with throughout 2013, as his series Strange Attractors comes out from Archaia, Letter 44 releases through Oni, and of course Swamp Thing starts up under his pen this April. But contrary to Tynion’s plans with Red Hood, Soule is looking to make his Swamp Thing stories a little smaller and tighter, in short 103 issue arcs that bring Alec Holland a little deeper into the DC universe. Soule also intends to add to Swamp Thing’s supporting cast, adding characters like a thousand-year old assassin who has had many dealings with the avatar of the Green in the past…just not yet with Alec. Accompanying Soule on his new run of Swamp Thing is Spanish comic artist, Jose Angel Cano Lopez, better known as KANO. KANO has worked with DC before on titles like Action Comics and Gotham Central, before gaining popularity at Marvel on books such as The Immortal Iron Fist and Iron Man 2.0. Now KANO is back at DC and ready to take on Swamp Thing, having already shown off his skills once with last year’s Swamp Thing #0.
