Godzilla2014PosterWe saw our first glimpse of the newest incarnation of the big green god of kaiju cinema, Godzilla, at San Diego Comic Con last year. It was epic! But as time roles on we’re seeing more and more…and honestly I’m not disappointed. While Hollywood has yet to master Kaiju films (Japanese for ‘Strange Creatures’, Kaiju is generally associated with oversized and destructive monsters) in the way that Japan has, the concept has been returned to over and over again, most recently with movies like Pacific Rim and Cloverfield. But taking into consideration the last US Godzilla film, directed by Roland Emmerich in 1998, it would be understandable why some fans might not get too excited about Gareth Edwards’ upcoming version. That is, it would be understandable until watching all the recent teasers and trailers. This new trailer particularly makes me excited because not only does it show footage of actors Bryan Cranston, Ken Wantanbe, and Elizabeth Olsen, who comprise some of the impressive list of humans cast in Godzilla, but we get our real shock and awe moment with Godzilla on screen at the end. Now after seeing the awesome trailer below, try and tell me you aren’t waiting for the film’s release on May 16th.

 

That said…I am still a little curious how Godzilla could send us all back to the stone age…
