Superman 75While DC scrapped much of their rich comic continuity 2 years ago for the New 52 version of the DC Universe, they still respect their long history. This has been noted throughout the year with many images, panels, and even logos denoting Superman’s 75th anniversary. Now, what could be considered the pièce de résistance, DC has released a short animation showcasing some of the greatest moments in Superman’s history over the past 75 years. The short includes various comic covers, actors, cartoons, video games, and comic events from Superman’s life while also showcasing the many appearances, art style changes, and costume changes the character went through since his first appearance way back in April of 1938. Most amazingly it does this beautifully in just 2 minutes.
The piece was created by Zack Snyder (Man of Steel) and Bruce Timm (Superman: The Animated Series) and produced by Warner Bros. Animation. I’m very tempted to call it Warner Bros. Animation’s greatest work to date, but I think a large part of that comes from the sentimental value it holds. Snyder and Timm did a brilliant job finding some of the most iconic parts of Superman’s history to include in here, while also finding room for little easter eggs like an appearance of Andy Warhol, John William’s Superman score, Superman’s various TV show opening sequences, and more. This is certainly a must for any Superman fan, and while those at New York Comic Con got an early look, you can all view the full clip below before it shows on DC Nation and the Man of Steel Blu-Ray as a special feature.
