Following Marvel a few years later down the road, DC Entertainment now has an app with all their event information on both the iOS and Android mobile operating systems. Years ago Marvel created a simple little app for iOS and Android that allowed fans to check on current convention signing schedules, panels, and news. It was a godsend for many fans as they tried to juggle their schedules and know who was signing at the Marvel booth and when. DC seemed to avoid this, regularly witholding anymore than their panel schedule until the start of the con, and even then keeping it limited to a few TV screens or small print outs held by booth staffers. For anyone who has ever attended a comic convention on the scale of San Diego’s Comic Con or New York’s Comic Con, you know that trying keep all those times and creators in your head based purely off a comment or list shown once on a small TV screen is near impossible. I myself praised digital cameras and cameras in mobile phones as I could take a quick snapshot of who was signing and when and drag it up whenever I needed. But once again, technology has moved forward and it’s great to see DC finally embrace it. So once you go to the iTunes or Google Play store and download the DC app, what do you get?

The app opens with a short little video that shows off some of DC’s more popular properties, hidden within their logo. From there you get streaming ad like header images at the top of the app, drawing your attention to things like current DC comics for purchase, video games, and buttons for exclusive items and surveys you can check out. At the bottom we get an outright fixed DC comic ad. In between all this in-company promotion? Six simple buttons: Events, My Con, Buzz, Gallery, Shop, and We Can Be Heroes. Events allows you to view all the panels, creator signings, in booth events, and off-site events of the current convention. Right now, as the only thing coming up is Comic Con, it looks like they’re not prepped to show you future events or store previous convention info (as Marvel’s App does). My Con collects shortcuts for the events you wanted to attend. Buzz collects all the news and videos, with just a quick youtube one available now (expect more when their first con goes into full swing). Gallery just seems to access DC’s Instagram, but you get some cool older pics from C2E2 right off the bat there. The shop feature shouldn’t surprise you much, as it sends you to various sections of the DC online store. As for We Can Be Heroes? Quick links to the DC/WB charity site and ebay store.

Overall the app is rather nice, and a beautiful compliment for comic fans look towards DC for an equivalent to Marvel’s event app. It has all the info you need, and many fans have been dying for with years of unannounced schedule coming out from DC only at the start of conventions, and often only on rotating TV screens. Now you can plan your con time with DC right and in advance, as well as in the palm of your hand wherever you go. But don’t think this only helps fans at the actual events…this is a rather ideal way for fans not at the show to still keep up on the DC news as it is released at Comic Con!
