Godzilla2014PosterFans in attendance of this year’s San Diego Comic Con and lucky enough to get into the Legendary Pictures Panel of Hall H got to see a short teaser trailer of next year’s epic Godzilla film. While Hollywood has yet to master Kaiju films (Japanese for ‘Strange Creatures’, Kaiju is generally associated with oversized and destructive monsters) in the way that Japan has, the concept has been returned to over and over again, most recently with movies like Pacific Rim and Cloverfield. But taking into consideration the last US Godzilla film, directed by Roland Emmerich in 1998, it would be understandable why some fans might not get too excited about Gareth Edwards’ upcoming version. That is, it would be understandable until watching the teaser footage from Comic Con. The footage may not have shown actors Bryan Cranston, Ken Wantanbe, or Elizabeth Olsen, who comprised the impressive list of human cast in Godzilla, but it does give a tone that makes one want to go “ooooo!” and “awe!” as they wait for the films release on May 16th of next year.

Now with all that said, it is hard to describe the teaser trailer or sell people on the film sight unseen, and Warner Bros. has not been helpful through their constant attempts at hiding the footage from eyes not present for the panel at San Diego Comic Con. Thankfully, the footage shown at Comic Con seems to have leaked today and you can now view the glorious damaged caused by Godzilla in the one and a half minute long trailer right below:
