SDCC ’13: Avatar’s Last Airbender Returns In 2014 For The Rift
Dark Horse recently released the second volume in the continuing adventures of Team Avatar, as the last airbender and his friends sought to track down Fire Lord Zuko’s mother in The Search. The Search is part of a three volume series that wraps up this October and expands upon the Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon series in comic format. But now we have news from this year’s San Diego Comic Con that the fun doesn’t stop with The Search, and Aang and his element bending pals will continue their comic book based adventures in 2014.
Gene Luen Yang and the art team of Gurihiru will return for a third series of Avatar stories in March of 2014. This time the adventure will be called The Rift. Once more the series will be a three volume tale, spread out over 2014, and focus on Aang, the Avatar, after the events of the critically acclaimed cartoon series. Aang will again be returning to Yu Dao, the city which first appeared in Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Promise and will once day be Avatar: The Legend of Korra‘s Republic City, where he uncoveres a terrible secret. What the secret is and how Aang will uncover it are still mysteries we will have to wait for next year to find out about. But what I can proudly say, and observant readers have undoubtedly already noticed from the cover art above, is that Toph will be back with Team Avatar. Toph unfortunately was not present in The Search, as she was busy teaching metal bending to “lily livers” at the Beifong Metal Bending Academy of Yu Dao. Now it looks like Team Avatar will be all back together come March 5th, 2014, for Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Rift!
