21st.CenturyTankGirlThat’s right, she’s back. Everyone’s favorite Tank Girl, the ultimate epitome of post-apocalyptic punk.

MahfoodTGCreated by Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett, Tank Girl started in a Fanzine as an ad with the simple caption “She’ll break your back and your balls!” and ended up in the debut issue of Deadline magazine in her own strip in 1988. The strip continued to have a spot in the mag until it’s end in 1995. This trash talking, shoot first-never mind the questions, nose picking, vulgar wild child developed a devote following and has since spawned countless graphic novels and even a motion picture.

Yet despite all the acclaim and her huge cult following, Tank Girl parked her tank in the garage after 1996 and took an 11 year hiatus. Surprisingly this never seemed to cool fans’ interest in the character, with cosplay popping up regularly at conventions and new fans being birthed daily. In 2007 she returned guns a blazin’ in a mini series and collection of one-shots. However this Girl was missing her counterpart creator, Jamie Hewlett, who had moved on during her break to help create the popular virtual band The Gorillaz. Writer Alan Martin stayed on with Tank Girl and added several artists along the way to help keep her going.

Soild State Tank Girl, the last mini-series, dropped nearly a year ago with the amazing art of indie creator Jim Mahfood. It was a great story, currently collected and available at your local comic shop, but it just wasn’t enough. Why wasn’t it enough? Because now we see what enough is, as the party is getting much bigger with this Kickstarter! The new Tank Girl book will literally be much bigger in scale, existing as A4 sized (297mm x 210mm) and crammed full of short comic strips, poster pages, poems, an illustrated text story, and so much more in your face action that your gob will hit the floor!

Confirmed artists for the project are none other than Jamie Hewlett himself (who has not revisited Tank Girl for well over a decade), Brett Parson, Warwick Johnson-Cadwell, Philip Bond, Jim Mahfood, Craig Knowles, and Jonathan Edwards.

CraigKnowlesTGThere are plenty of levels to pledge at, the higher the pledge the better the booty. There are some wildly hilarious levels in this Kickstarter such as the Get Killed by Tank Girl level, where you get exactly what it says - you or a friend will be brutally killed by Tank Girl via a ridiculous circumstance, who wouldn’t want that???

Or there’s my personal favorite - The Penis Edition. You’ll get a copy of the book that will be carefully defaced by none other than Jamie and Alan themselves. Moustaches, pubes, etxra vugar dialogue, and of course gratuitous knobs all over the book. You will also get a “clean” version of the book as well with that one, so you can read it the way all the other plebs are.

Other pledge incentives and rewards include exclusive wallpaper, bookmarks, magnets, a personalized prose story, artwork, and of course the actual Tank Girl hardcover (with levels that get it to you signed by the various creators involved).

Over 2,000 backers and over $110,000 have been raised thus far, and this Kickstarter was fully funded in under 48 hours! But there is still just over 2 weeks left!! The more pledged the more goodies get unlocked. However your pledge must be high enough to include The Book to gain access to the bigger bonuses, but you can also add some of the known extras if you’d like. This might be the only way for fans to get many of these exclusive items or the special dust jacket version of the hardcover, available ONLY to Kickstarter backers.

Pledges start at £1 (about $1.70) and end at £5,000 (for all you high rollers out there).

There are 16 Days left in this Kickstarter and the more raised the more goodies get unlocked!

Deadline to pledge is April 30th so don’t wait!!!!
