superpowers_JaeLeeA few years ago many public domain superheroes returned to comics at Dynamite Entertainment in Project Super Powers, a comic series and movement heavily aided by the talented Alex Ross. The series started out strong and eventually spun into multiple mini-series and on-going series focusing on the various comic characters in solo adventures. As with many Dynamite books, the comics all featured wonderful covers by top comic artists and were generally quite enjoyable reads. But eventually sales faded and the books all ended. So what could bring back the Super Powers universe and make it really stick? Why the same comic author that Marvel once hired to revive many of its characters that had waning popularity, Warren Ellis! Yes, Warren Ellis, the internet god of writing, who has recently returned to comics with titles at both Marvel and Image, now is prepping some fun new stories at Dynamite Entertainment with classic comic superheroes. Warren Ellis plans to take control of the Project Superpowers universe in late 2014, as Dynamite Entertainment continues to celebrate its 10th Anniversary.

“I’ve long been fascinated by the period in comics that produced these characters” Warren stated about the various Golden Age comic superheroes that build up Dynamite’s Super Powers universe. “I’m very much looking forward to working out the strange, atmospheric take on the weird thriller that they inspired. Also, it’s going to be a pleasure to finally do a job through the good offices of my old friend Nick Barrucci.”

Nick Barrucci, the Dynamite Publisher and CEO, added “I’ve wanted to work with Warren for many years, and have approached him more than a few times. I can honestly say that when his schedule allowed for us to work together, I was speechless. We’ve been waiting for the right creative vision to bring back Dynamite’s Superpowers Universe, and I can’t think of anyone better than Warren to do so. I was elated that both came together. He will make this series his own and will bring a larger audience to Dynamite’s Super Powers universe. This is truly an honor to be working with him, as Warren elevates Dynamite to a new level”.
