NYCC ’14: Operation S.I.N.
Falling out of Marvel’s big summer event and next week’s upcoming annual, Original Sin, is a newly announced Marvel mini-series that might also intrigue many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s called Operation S.I.N. and it is a 50′s era mystery comic that seems like it will be Peggy Carter’s answer to December’s S.H.I.E.L.D. comic book series. Why do I say that? Because not only are we seeing Peggy Carter once more in comics, during a time that will be the height of her popularity as SHIELD’s blonde bombshell agent gets her own TV miniseries, but this might be a keystone storyline for the Marvel universe based on who is in it.
Operation S.I.N. will feature Peggy Carter, Howard Stark, and Woodrow McCord in Cold War era Russia, attempting to track down an alien artifact. Some of you might be asking who Woodrow McCord is, to which I point you to his brief appearance as the Nick Fury before Nick Fury in Original Sin and next week’s Original Sin annual that is solicited as heavily featuring the man. This unlikely trio will find themselves working together under the pen and dialogue of writer Kathryn Immonen and artist Rich Ellis, as announced today at New York Comic Con’s Cup-o-Joe panel with Joe Quesada. Set for release in January, Carter, Stark, and McCord will go up against HYDRA to attempt to save the day. This seems like it could be a great comic jumping on point for fans of the Captain America: The First Avenger film or an ideal read for anyone looking for more Bond-esque super spy stories.
