Spidey Stampspiderman2-uspsOne of the more unique geeky crossovers is that of comic fans and stamp collectors. For years the greatest comic characters have found their way on to collectable US Postal Service stamps and collectors have gone crazy gathering and displaying them. They’re certainly quite awesome collectables and great fun to see on a new package or letter in the case that someone actually uses them for shipping. But what if the USPS had other great comic products that were guaranteed to see use beyond collecting, so that comic fans might be even more surprised when they received a letter or package in the mail? Well, the USPS and Sony Pictures certainly thinks it is a great idea, as the two team up to help the Amazing Spider-Man deliver your mail…so to speak. In a great joint advertising campaign, USPS is teaming up with Sony Pictures for the release of Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the promotion of USPS’ Priority Mail service. The two companies will be working on this high-profile marketing campaign that begins this week and continues through May, the month Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters!
In a wonderfully cheesy, and very 1960′s comic like statement, Nagisa Manabe, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer at USPS, stated “Our Priority Mail products share many qualities with a Super Hero of Spider-Man’s caliber. Namely those of speed, agility and reliability. Like Spider-Man, our priority has always been the people we serve. We pride ourselves on our commitment to public service and delivering for our customers, and we are excited about enlisting Spider-Man to help promote our Priority Mail offerings.” The promotional campaign will include USPS trucks featuring Spider-Man images in major metropolitan areas, limited-edition Spider-Man Priority Mail Flat Rate Shipping Boxes (which you might want to swing by your local post office to pick up), in-movie USPS logos (expect a fair share of mailmen in Amazing Spider-Man 2), Spider-Man postage from self-service kiosks, and this amazing commercial:

With a cameo like that, how could you not choose to ship your package priority through the US Postal Service? If you want to pick up some of the various Spidey themed boxes or take a look at what else Spider-Man is doing with the USPS, check out their Amazing website! There are even quite a few special Marvel stamps and posters you can pick up. But whether you’re shipping packages or not, just remember that Amazing Spider-Man 2 is out in just a month and a half, hitting theaters this May 2nd, just before Free Comic Book Day!
