To some of you it might be a surprise that Genesis/”Kid Apocalypse”, the youthful clone of the dreadful first mutant currently living at the Jean Grey School for Gifted Children, is a rapper. But what should truly surprise you is how good he is. Cosplayer, actor, and Co-Founder of Mongrel Studios, Quinn Allan is Kid Apocalypse. He is a brilliantly talented lyricist who has made several music videos with his ‘Dark Beast’ compatriot, rapper Jared Yanez. You might have seen them at several various conventions, including Emerald City Comic Con, where his March 2013 music video, Came From The Chain, was filmed.

Kid Apocalypse is a genre ‘Nerdcore’ rapper from Oregon who started out in 2012. In his own words, “It started one night lying in bed. I got the idea to write some raps as if I was the character Genesis from the recent Uncanny X-Force and Wolverine and the X-Men comics. I showed them to my roommate who liked the idea. Then he started writing. It was contagious. He took on the persona of “Dark Beast”, the Hank McCoy of the alternate Age of Apocalypse universe. We had more material than we knew what to do with. Luckily our friend Andy (DJ Broo Ha Ha) graced us with his talents of making sweet sweet beats. We went to the studio to do some vocals, did a photo shoot, a video shoot, and are currently awaiting the final mixes so we can release our first mix tape, Enter Kid Apocalypse, and get the music out there.” Currently Kid Apocalypse has 4 music videos out, with the newest video, Nightcrawlin, dropping today. The lyrics generally lie in the X-Men/Marvel mythos, with other comic references sprinkled throughout. Check it out below:

In September of last year, Quinn Allan, Jared Yanez, and Andrew “DJ Broo Ha Ha” Parish released their first digital album, entitled Enter Kid Apocalypse after a Rose City Comic Con appearance. Those in attendance got free download codes by visiting the Mongrel Studios booth, which was also promoting the amusing Infinite Issues web-series the studio also produces. Currently you can download the 2-track album for free on Kid Apocalypse’s Bandcamp site in MP3 or FLAC format. The ablum contains the songs Space Out and Nightcrawlin, now both in music video form. Quinn Allan does a wonderful job bringing to life Rick Remender and Esad Ribic’s 2011 Uncanny X-Force character as a rap artist, and I highly expect him to be the next Kirby Krackle in the way of nerd/geek themed music. Genesis/Kid Apocalypse the comic character still appears monthly in Wolverine and the X-Men, but you can find Quinn Allan’s Kid Apocalypse and friends on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Youtube, and the official Mongrel Studios website.
