Ditching the golden scale armor for black ink scales, Jason Mamoa has donned the costume of Aquaman for 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Director Zack Snyder tweeted this image just a short while ago via twitter, with the hash tag #UniteTheSeven. This film just keeps adding heroes to the cast, and you’ll note that while Aquaman is the king of Atlantis and the Seven Seas, there also happen to be 7 core members of the Justice League (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern, and currently Cyborg of the New 52). I wonder which connotation Snyder was going for.

MamoaAquamanMamoa has played some powerful roles in recent years, portraying Conan in the 2011 film and Khal Drogo in the first season of Game of Thrones, but how will he handle Aquaman? Well, it is funny to admit Mamoa already has experience with Atlantis, playing Ronon Dex for 73 episodes of Stargate: Atlantis. But this role as a DC superhero will enter him into a much larger universe that could be par with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor over in the Marvel films. It is said that the role of Aquaman and Cyborg (played by Ray Fisher) will be small in Batman v Superman, but with a solo film about Aquaman hitting in 2018 and the Justice League films coming out in 2017 and 2019 respectively, expect Jason Mamoa to make waves with future appearances as the King of Atlantis!
