Super-Secret Celebrity Cosplay at SDCC ‘14
Over the last several years as San Diego Comic Con’s popularity has skyrocketed, many celebrities have taken to dressing up in costume too and blending in with crowds. Especially when it means they won’t be swarmed by fans. So let’s take a look at some celebrities who did just that.
One of the more talked about hidden celeb citings people were talking about was of course Harry Potter himself Daniel Ratcliffe. The Boy Who Lived donned the iconic red and blue tights and toured the convention as Spider-Man.
“I did an American accent for the whole time. I even took a rucksack, so I look like I’m just coming to Comic-Con. I had a whole look. But it was great … I took lots of pictures with people who did not know that it was me.”
The King of Hobbits Peter Jackson disguised himself as an “Evil Jester.” He too mingled amongst the hordes, interacting with them and having his picture taken by unknowing attendees.
“I had a fun day at Comic Con walking among you all,” he wrote. “Did anyone see the Evil Jester? Some of you did because you asked him to pose for pics! Cheers, Peter J.”
Radcliffe wasn’t the only celebrity who used Spidey to let them maneuver through this year’s show. Game of Thrones star Maisie Willisams (Arya Stark) wore just a Spider-Man mask while she explored. She was sending pictures of her adventure to her fans via Instagram. At one point she even swapped out Spidey’s visage for that of Guy Fawkes!
Actor/Comedian/Rock & Roll Genius Jack Black tried his hand at a Stormtrooper disguise after he was in trouble shopping on the floor without one. Although “the word must’ve got out”, as he said, because fans were eventually on to him.
Every year Mythbusters star Adam Savage creates a fantastic new costume to walk around in. He’s been anywhere from a Nazghul to Steampunk Admiral Ackbar. But this year, he wore a costume he has been working on for a decade, the space suit from the original Alien!
“I just walked the floor in my Alien spacesuit from Ridley Scott’s movie and it was the hottest and most balmy experience of my life — I think I lost three pounds just walking for 30 minutes,” Savage told Yahoo TV.”
Always great to see stars we love show how much love they have for this culture.

Darren Schram is the manager extraordinaire of Sky High Comics in San Marcos, Ca. He started out reading GI Joe comics when he was a kid, moving on to collecting Star Wars comics exclusively, while reading the occasional title off the rack in a local drug store...just to "check in" with the comic world. Darren did a graceful high dive into the comic book pools deep end just over a decade ago. Now it isn't a question of what is he reading, but more..what isn't he reading? He is what he calls a "multi-denominational geek", with exceptional geek cred in Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica, that award him his self appointed elite status. He also once "scissor kicked Angela Lansbury."
