Marvel Cancels Upcoming Covers By Milo Manara.
In this Tuesday’s edition of Diamond Comic Distributors “Product & Shipping Updates” it seems that 2 upcoming variant covers originally solicited to be drawn by the legendary Italian artist would now be drawn by someone else. Siya Oum (Aspen’s Lola XOXO) will be providing the art for October’s Avengers & X-Men: Axis #1, and the artist for November’s Thor #2 has yet to be announced. While Marvel has not given any statement regarding the change, the internet is, of course, aflutter with speculation as to why, and attributing the change due to all the controversy surrounding November’s highly debated Spider-Woman #1.
It should be noted, however, that so far the hotly discussed Spider-Woman cover has not been cancelled, so it is entirely possible that fans are reading much more into this than there is, and that there is a legitimate reason as to why the changes were made. Also, the artwork for both covers has never been released to retailers or media outlets, so it is possible the artwork was simply not ready by print time.
