This week SG2M travelled to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco for Image Expo. For those of you who missed out on our Live Tweeting of the event, here are some of the highlights:

• Have you been feeling like there hasn’t been enough snot in your comics? Well you are in luck Bryan Lee O’Malley (Scott Pilgrim) and Leslie Hung (Bee & Puppycat) Snotgirl. A dark comedy set in the world of fashion blogging. This is O’Malley’s debut as a writer on a monthly series.
• For you Walking Dead fans, Brian K Vaughn (Saga) announced that he would be writing a one shot issue of the popular title that would only be available digitally on Panel Syndicate, Vaughn’s own digital comic service.
• Gail Simone (Suicide Squad) and Cat Staggs (Smallville) unveiled that they are working together on a crime fantasy titled Crosswind. Described as Freaky Friday meets Goodfellas, Image is boasting this book will be the talk of the year, with Simone saying “This is the comic that might make Dr. Wertham come back from the dead to try to ban comics again.” That description alone makes it a must read.
• “What if the guys who did Scalped did the Bible?” Jason Aaron (Southern Bastards) and R.M Guerra (Batman Eternal) team together again for The Goddamned. “Imagine if Quentin Tarantino was hired to direct the movie version of the book of Genesis. That’s pretty much what we’re aiming for.” Said Aaron of the upcoming title.
• Greg Rucka (Punisher) & Nicola Scott (Teen Titans) will show us some Black Magic, in their ongoing paranormal crime story Rucka calls “witch-noir.”
• Kaare Kyle Andrews brings his first creator owned comic to Image. The One%, telling the story of a vigilante sets his sights on the 1% in the upcoming The One%.
• Ronald Wimberly (Occupy Comics) announced 2 upcoming projects Sunset Park and Slave Punk. In Sunset Park a cartoonist finds an abandoned box filled of notes and journals which he uses to create a macabre story. Slave Punk is the story of a slave defying the powerful Cotton King and igniting a Civil War.
• Chynna Clugston (Teen Titans Go!) announced Scooter Girl, a “screwball romantic comedy classic.” She also announced that a massive collected edition of her comic Blue Monday would be coming to Image.
• An outed cop fights his way across Jamaica, Steve Orlando (Midnighter) tries what he calls “queer exploitation” in Virgil! An OGN due out in September.
• Simon Spurrier (the Spire) unveils Cry Havoc, “a modern mix of myth, military, and monstrosity. Cry Havoc uses three different colorists to define the three parallel stories interwoven through the book.
• Hadrian’s Wall is an awesome sounding new psychlogical/scifi thriller from Kyle Higgins (Captain America) & Alec Siegel (C.O.W.L.)
• Brian Haberlin is writing and drawing his new scifi series Faster Than Light, and will introduce readers to a new interactive experience. All issues will feature Anaomaly’s augmented reality app which will make the story’s holograms leap off the page.
• “What happens when a video game decides to come to our reality to play?” Shane Davis (Green Lantern) and Michelle Deleki announce Axcend, a video game come to life story full of action.
• Caitlin Kittredge (Coffin Hill) announced Throwaways, a thriller involving Project MK-ULTRA, the CIA’s former mind control program.
• A homeless veteran must feed a parking meter to solve a murder in Jimmie Robinson’s (Countdown) Expired
• Joe Keatinge (Tech Jacket) and Nick Barber (2000 AD) bring us Ringside, a new ongoing comic about Pro-Wrestlng…which you can be sure I will be reading.
• Steven Seagle (X-Men) and New Yorker artist Jason Adam Katzenstein announced an all ages OGN, Camp Mignight, arriving just in time for Halloween.
• The legend Warren Ellis and Tula Lotay partner up once more for the supernatural Heartless. Ellis had this to say about the book “I wrote this for Tula, and it’s full of all the stuff we love: the spooky stories, the landscape, the folklore, and the things that haunt us.”
• “What if the sexy Russian Bond girl was the hero?” The answer is Antony Johnston (FUSE) and Shari Chankhamma’s Codename Baboushka. The title is said to include a line of all female drawn covers!
• Robert Kirkman couldn’t make it but Sean Mackiewicz (Walking Dead Editor) was on hand to talk about the upcoming reboot for Kirkman’s long running Invincible. The reboot will begin with issue #124, and Mark finds himself back at the beginning, unpowered, but with all the memories of what he has been through. This is going to be awesome! But what else is to expected from the greatest super hero comic today

…And finally…

• Mark Millar (Kick-Ass) and Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire) are teaming up to bring us Huck. I’ll let Mr.Millar tell you all about it; “All the best old comics were about people you didn’t expect becoming empowered. Peter Parker wasn’t a classic hero. He was a lonely teenager. Matt Murdock was blind. Tony Stark had a heart condition. Doctor Donald Blake couldn’t walk without a stick. So we wanted to do something incredibly sweet about a small-town guy with learning difficulties who could do all these amazing things. He’s the purest, most decent character you’ve ever seen in a comic book. A big guy who just wants to help people and does it in secret so nobody even knows he even exists. It’s the ultimate feel good comic. A Frank Capra superhero story I guess about a small town and a close-knit community and an amazing guy they just all want to shelter from the outside world. He’s Captain America meets Forrest Gump. He’s just a nice guy in a very classic mold.”

Clearly we are all in for a treat when these amazing titles start to come in this fall.
