The Best Potted Groot Yet! — A New Guardians of the Galaxy Toy Worth Buying
Ever since that amazing credits scene from this year’s highly popular Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, fans have been clamoring for a dancing potted Groot toy. Everyone from Funk Pop to KIDdesigns has made a version of the beloved sapling Groot in a pot, though the custom figures by fans have often come out the best. However, a new contender enters the arena this week with an absolutely stunning toy. Hong Kong’s Hot Toys has recently shown off their bendable, interchangeable face, potted Groot figure that will go on sale this weekend at Hong Kong’s major toy expo, Toy Soul 2014.
While sadly this Groot will not dance to awesome tunes from the Jackson 5 or other bands on the legendary Star-Lord’s Awesome Mix-Tape, he will be quite posable and feature 3 separate interchangeable heads that you can use to make him replicate all your favorite moments from the movie, as you can see below. The figure is designed at a 1/4th scale and features special paint to reflect his distinctive appearance from the film. Unfortunately there are no plans currently announced for US sales of the figure, but if you’re in Hong Kong this weekend, you can grab the figure for just $260HK (roughly $33.50 USD), which is quite the steal. Expect to see a few find their way online for a far heftier price tag.
Hot Toys has several other interesting looking Marvel toys set for sale at Toy Soul, as well as some that will be exclusive first looks from the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron movie. It might be worth keeping an eye on this Asian toy company that has recently snagged the rights to Asian distribution for all of Star Wars Sideshow collectibles. If you can, swing by their booth (F01-12) at the Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre tomorrow through December 21st.
