Amazing Arizona Comic Con’s Sexy 2013 Exclusives
Amazing Arizona Comic Con is coming up soon (tomorrow in fact!) with its show taking place January 25th-27th, and it’s definitely a show you want to attend if nothing more than to pick up all the amazing exclusives. Sure, attending the show you could meet comic greats like Stan Lee, Jim Lee, John Layman, and more…but just take a look at some of these incredibly sexy Amazing Arizona variant covers below and you’ll be thrusting your credit card at the screen to pre-order tickets to Arizona’s hottest and first comic convention of the year!
First up is Aspen MLT, who not only has a sexy Amazing Arizona Comic Con variant of Legend of the Shadow Clan #1, but they’ll have it available a week before the comic officially hits stores. This is the first of Aspen’s 10 for 10 initiative comics and they’ll also have series creator and writer David Wohl present to sign it! The variant cover is by Soulfire artist Mike DeBalfo and colorist Peter Steigerwald, who will both be present to sign at the show alongside Aspen creators Frank Mastromauro (Shrugged, Dellec), Nei Ruffino (Green Lantern Corps, Soulfire), Tony Parker (Dead Man’s Run, R.I.P.D.: City of the Damned), and Vince Hernandez (Charismagic, Executive Assistant: Assassins).
Aspen will also be featuring all new editions of their industry-leading art prints available at the Aspen Booth all weekend long, including the year’s first edition of their anniversary flashback Aspen Tour Print 2013, featuring Aspen Matthews by Michael Turner and Peter Steigerwald, limited to 100 editions. The publisher’s other prints include a new Fathom print by Mike DeBalfo and Peter Steigerwald (Limited to 75), and two new Executive Assistant: Iris prints by Elizabeth Torque (Limited to 50).
Over at Big Dog Ink & Anastasia’s Collectibles you can find some incredibly sexy variant covers to some of BDI’s best comics. The coolest variant, in our opinion, is the new Cosplay Edition cover they’re offering for Critter #8. Why is this the coolest? Because, aside from being cosplay related, Big Dog Ink will be giving this variant away for FREE to anyone who cosplays a Big Dog Ink character at the show! BDI will begin doing this at many of their convention appearances, but to start things off their current offering is a cover beautifully rendered by Mike DeBalfo and Nei Ruffino, limited to just 250 copies. And if that isn’t enough to scratch your Critter variant itch, check out the also limited to 250 copy variant by new Big Dog Ink artist, Renato Rei and super colorist Ula Mos on the bottom right.
Also, premiering at Amazing Arizona, is a rather cute exclusive variant of Critter #8 by Jeff Pina. To celebrate the first appearance of Jeff Pina’s Superpawn in Critter #8, this cover is done by Jeff and features colors by Corey Knaebel. Limited to just 100 copies, you’ll want to swing by BDI’s booth, or Jeff Pina’s, and pick it up fast.
There are also some stunning collaborative variants from Big Dog Ink and Bluerainbow Online for Joan of Arc #3 by Dawn McTeigue and Ula Moś! There are 3 versions of this book, but two of them get a little…topless, and had to be censored. The dark crimson skies topless variant has a 200 copy print run, while the more angelic and cloud filled background is limited to 100 copies. Of course, if you don’t mind your gal wearing a bit more clothes, the more covering variant by McTeigue has a 300 print run. Meanwhile, Richard Ortiz, Ula Mo,s and Anastasia Collectibles also have produced a sexy Joan of Arc #3 variant for Amazing Arizona, which also wears a bit of clothing.
And Corey Knaebel has done the last, but quite beautiful, Joan of Arc #3 variant, which is limted to only 250 copies.
If you’re a fan of Legend of Oz you’ll want to pick up their issue #4 variants at the show too. Just like with Critter #8, there will be 3 variants, one of which is a shop exclusive. There is a Bluerainbow exclusive done by Jen Broomall and Ula Mos featuring a quite sexy General Jinjur that is limited to 200. Another features General Jinjur playing poker by her own rules with art by Natali Sanders and only 250 copies in existence. And finally if you swing by Jesse James Comics you can get the final Legend of Oz #4 variant, by Australian artist Connie Valentina, limited to just 100 copies.
Contraband Comics, the small indie comic publisher behind Big Hitters & Jack Rabbit, also has some sexy comic covers with variants by the likes of Rob Liefeld, Eric Basaldua, and Mike DeBalfo. At the show you can pick up Marat Mychael’s Blindside #0 with an awesome Rob Liefeld variant (looking very much in the Liefeld style) as well as Marat’s Blindside tie-in, Notti & Nyce, which is launching at the show.
Notti and Nyce has 3 limited edition covers, like the one you see above. But the ones you’ll definitely want to get your hands on are the very Naughty, and yet also quite nice, covers by EBas and DeBalfo down below.
Of course Chaos! master and Lady Death creator Brian Pulido will be at the show, being a local to Arizona. And with his presence comes the Lady Death Universe booth (Booth #604) with brand new exclusive Lady Death editions!
The guys from Omega-1will also be on hand with a Alfred Trujillo cover to Omega-1, which looks pretty much identical to their Long Beach Comic Con cover, but with the Amazing Arizona logo slapped on it. For those not familiar with Omega-1, the “Omega One” comic book series takes place in the future. When the lines of electronic communications are compromised by groups of terrorist hackers that have brought down not only large companies but governments from around the world; this began the “Hacker Wars”. Out of the hacker wars grew courier services that rely on human couriers that can hold vast amounts of data and information. These couriers have become the futuristic version of the pony express, these couriers encounter danger at every turn. Among the many courier services has emerged “Alpha Courier Alliance” one of the elite companies known for their ability get information through no matter the risk; along with their top agent Meg Vasille code-named ”Omega One”. But who is “Omega One”, where did she come from and why do people either want to possess her or want her dead? You’ll have to pick up the comic to find out. The series has several issues already available and a motion comic that premiered at Stan Lee’s Comikaze convention last year.
Top Cow is also to have a presence at Amazing Arizona Comic Con tomorrow, with Top Cow’s President & COO, Matt Hawkins attending the convention along with Managing Editor, Bryan Rountree. They’ll have two Amazing Arizona exclusives for sale at the booth. A limited edition Think Tank lithograph, as well as a limited edition Think Tank Military Dossier Photo Cover will be available at the booth.
Zenescope, as usual, always seems to find itself at the end of these lists (perhaps because they’re one of the only comic publishers with the balls to start their name with the letter Z), but that’s probably a good thing considering their exclusives are so hot they’d be hard to follow up! Check out the sexy Amazing Arizona variant to Fly #4 and make sure to get it signed by Raven Gregory, another Arizona local creator, while at the show!
