wc2016_banner_v1WonderCon has moved yet again, but it’s guaranteed to have the fans move with it this year while bringing in a large number more thanks to the new location of Los Angeles! Home of the stars, movie studios, and several comic publishers, expect this show to have a fair number of Geeky celebrities present. If you can, you need to get tickets fast, and prep your travel plans because downtown LA is not always an easy place to get to, stay at, or find parking. But if you do make it? There will be a lot of fun things to see, do, and discover as publishers like DC and Boom plan for some big upcoming comic announcements, including the entire creative line up for DC’s Rebirth! If you can’t make it, don’t worry, we’ll be live tweeting the entire thing and have articles recapping all the going ons and breaking news.

History:

WonderCon began in 1987, the brain child of comic retailer John Barrett, and was run by Joe Field and Mike Friedrich for over 15 years. In 2001, WonderCon was taken into the Comic Con International family as the management group that runs San Diego Comic Con took control. While the convention had humble beginnings in the Oakland Convention Center, it now calls the Moscone Center in San Francisco California its home. The attendance of this convention may not be on the level of its San Diego sister convention, but with 40k attendees in San Francisco, the numbers look like they will continue to grow. Furthermore, this show brings out the comic companies and pays homage to the genre that spawned it like the San Diego Comic Con of the nineties. Added with its mid-spring timing, the show brings big Hollywood attention and has often hosted early and preview screenings of many major comic book films, such as Spider-man 2, Batman Begins, and Watchmen. This year will be the show’s fourth year in Southern California and first year in Los Angeles, California, after the Moscone Center underwent construction. 3-Day and Saturday tickets have already sold out, so despite another move and taking place on Easter Weekend, expect the convention to be as packed as ever!
