SDCC ’15: Marvel Booth Exclusives

In the past few years Marvel has begun officially selling exclusive products out of their booths at various conventions they have an actual presence in, like New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic Con. This year they continue this newer tradition with some great apparel, exclusive comic covers, and a unique series of items that have a bit of a Disney twist. But the trick to getting these incredibly awesome exclusives is heading to Marvel’s San Diego Comic Con booth (#2329), which only a lucky 130,000 people will have the opportunity for.

Now I’m sure you’re all first off more curious what the mystery item with the Disney twist is than you’re interested in finding out what T-Shirts and comics are available (but if you’re at all a Marvel fan, you undoubtedly want to know both!). Disney theme parks have long had a tradition of making limited edition pins they sell exclusively at their parks, with some being very very limited to sales consisting only over a day or weekend. Because of this, the concept of Pin Trading, or trading these exclusive and limited pins with other collectors at the parks, has become quite the hobby. You can often attend either Disneyland or Disneyworld and see fans set up with huge binders of pins trading over the entire day of their visit with many people getting involved and exchanging one pin for another. It seems the theme has rubbed off on Marvel, because this year at San Diego’s Comic Con International not only will Marvel be selling exclusive and rare pins at their booth, but they’ll have a designated time for trading them in their booth!

In total there will be 28 collectible, enamel pins, based on artist Skottie Young’s Marvel comic book covers. They can be purchased several different ways however, rather than individually, with four-packs available for $25, two-packs for $12.50, and single pins available for $10-$15. Star-Lord, Rocket/Groot, Thanos, and Nova are only available in a “Guardians of the Galaxy” 4-pack. Black Widow, Hawkeye, Iron Man, and Thor Odinson are only available in an Avengers 4-pack. $25 for each 4-pack. Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2099, Silk, and Spider-Gwen are only available in a Spider-Man 4-pack. She-Hulk, Squirrel Girl, Elektra, and Thor (Jane Foster) are only available in a Women of Marvel 4-pack. Hulk/Banner, Captain America, Black Bolt, Black Panther, Iron Patriot, Iron Fist, Loki, Captain Marvel are only available in blind box 2-packs, which run $12.50 each. Ultron, Ant-Man, and Vision are only available in limited quantities throughout the convention for $10 each, with a caveat. To purchase one of the 3 limited pins, you must spend $30 at the Marvel Shop just to be able to purchase one! But if you spend $65 you can purchase two, or spend $90 to purchase all three. Odd that it’s not $60 for that second tier…but it’s Marvel. Finally, Nick Fury is only available in a special pin and lanyard pack. $15 for each pack.

So say you didn’t get that one pin you couldn’t wait to get your hands on? Fans are encouraged to come by the Marvel Booth (Booth #2329) at specially planned Pin Trading Hours and trade with other fans and collectors. The times and days for this pin trading activity sadly isn’t scheduled yet, however, and Marvel asks that fans please refer to the official booth schedule for scheduled Pin Trading Hours. Personally I’m after that Iron Fist.

So what other great exclusives is Marvel offering this year at their booth? Try some great and unique apparel, like the UV-altering Ant-Man shadow shirt or Lenticular Age of Ultron Ironman shirt! But there are quite a few shirts, averaging in at $25 per.
