DC Comics In June, New Titles and Creative Teams

Just a few short hours before today’s big DC Retailer Roadshow (the first of several) in Burbank, CA, DC has dropped the bombshell of June’s post-Convergence plans. What are they? Well, they involve 24 brand new comic series, a dropping of the New 52 branding, and some major creative team shake ups. This is certainly some interesting and, in a few cases, unexpected twists to the stories currently unfolding at DC. Not all currently sound super exciting, but many seem like they’re the right direction for the company. Below we have a list of all 49 of DC’s upcoming series releasing as of June and their respective creative teams. Later today I’ll personally be attending the Retailer Roadshow to here what DC has to announce and talk to some of the higher ups about the books announced today. So it is likely tomorrow you hear thoughts. For now, let’s enjoy pictures, titles, and creative teams while you all form theories on how these combinations will work out later this year.

Not really many HUGE shake ups, but it seems like DC is starting to get their talent down tight on a lot of their books. It’s saddening to see some creators leave, like Ben Templesmith exiting Gotham by Midnight. But other new creator switch-ups look to be quite interesting, like the unique choice of the very talented Gene Luen Yang taking on Superman. Others we have to be quite glad saw no shake up, like the Batman and Detective Comics line-ups that already hold together so well. But now we’ll see the new books with intriguing creator teams that I’m sure will have people talking. Talking in what way however? I’ll leave that to you to decide.

There seems to be a few fairly interesting titles on this list, with some unique and unexpected creative teams. There also seems to be a fair number of underwhelming selections and series that are just re-titles of pre-existing ones currently wrapping up in the New 52. Quite interesting is DC is continuing their love for pencillers taking up the keyboard and/or doing double duties on the creative end. In Robin, Son of Batman, we might be seeing Pat Gleason’s very first comic writing gig. It could all get rather interesting. Let’s see what the big boys at DC have to say later today in Burbank.
